Principal's Letter

OLG Family,

The Prayer of St. Francis is something that keeps coming to mind for me lately, living just on the peripheries of my brain, slipping into my thoughts in waves, clearly whenever the Holy Spirit calls it forward. Though it's not explicitly said, it reminds me about the abundant need to both give and receive God's grace. Today was one of those days for me where the Holy Spirit really “laid it on thick” and forced me to pause and recognize the many juxtapositions that occur within the prayer, and within the day to day. It is in days that are all over the map, that we must be reminded to call forth the light, and call on the Holy Spirit.

This morning was a time of so much light, and an envelopment of love. As we celebrated all school Mass, led by our 5th graders, Fr. Phuong talked about what love was about, and covenants were about. Promises, love, heart, dedication, service, leadership, learning and of course, praying.

To me though, the highlight was when we felt the love of our community become palpable. For those that were present, perhaps you felt it as I did. We had the honor and privilege of joining together as a school community and family to celebrate the hard work, determination and steadfast commitment of one of our own beloved community members, Señora Nofrietta who yesterday became a U.S. Citizen! What a gift and special moment to shine a light on a beautiful soul’s tremendous accomplishment. Together as a community, we celebrate you, Señora! It is a time for joy and a time for light. What a reason to have hope come to life. We are so proud of you!

In Señora Nofrietta’s honor, tomorrow is Patriotic Spirit Wear (red, white, blue). Note that this is not political (so no political shirts/ party-specific slogans or names), but rather one of unity, celebration and pride for America. There is already plenty of controversy in our world. Tomorrow’s focus is exclusively about unity and pride for our country and the freedom that we share.

Remembering Our Loved Ones Who Have Died on the Feast of All Souls

During the month of November, beginning with the Feast of All Souls, we remember all those who have died, including parishioners from this past year. You are invited to attend a special Mass on Saturday, Nov 2nd, 10:00 am as we pray in a special way for those who have gone before us and for us who mourn their loss. A small reception will be held afterwards. Please invite families and friends to join us.

This year’s Election Season has been a challenging one for Catholics to navigate. Fr. Ryan, Pastor at St. James Cathedral, recently wrote a letter to the parishioners offering guidance based on Catholic Social Teaching and Pope Francis’ recent comments.  Click here to read the letter
