Good afternoon Families,
In a time where our world perhaps needs more prayers than ever, tomorrow the faculty and staff will gather together for an archdiocesan-wide retreat called Christ in the Classroom. The theme for the retreat is The Fundamentals of Prayer. As we gather together, we will be learning about ways in which we can bring prayer further into our lives, classrooms, and even to all of you at home; growing together in relationship, identity and mission. We lift our community and our world up in prayer, and join the Chancery and Archdiocese in a prayer for peace (click on the image to read more and join in saying the prayer).
This week, our students spent time growing together in relationship, out in public on field trips in a few grades, and in identity and mission with saints projects and trips to Providence Mount St. Vincent. Our students gathered in prayer to attend daily Mass with their classes and parishioners, and also grew in their identities as new Faith Family Groups. Who we are as a community, and what we love about OLG and our neighbors was highlighted naturally this week by our oldest and our youngest students alike. We even had an opportunity to grow together in Partners in the Gospel Input Sessions at the start of the week, and share our hopes and also our fears of the unknown. It was such a gift to hear what many of you, as families, love, and what drew you to OLG in the first place. Know that I heard each of you, and that the feelings are mutual and echo loudly within the staff and students too.
As we move further into the fall, and continue to be united in mission and community, please pay close attention to upcoming dates (below) to be involved, participate, engage, and volunteer. We are best together.
Next Thursday 10/19, our 5th grade will be leading us in our first student-led All School Mass at 9am! We hope that you can join! Just a reminder that all students K-8 are expected to be in FULL DRESS uniform.
Keep checking backpacks for coats/ jackets and remember to keep your kids home if they are sick. Flu, colds, Strep and Covid are still hanging around.
Have a wonderful long weekend, and thank you for remembering the staff in prayer tomorrow as we retreat and pray for all of you.

In honor of National Bullying Prevention Month, we are discussing bullying and victimization behaviors in SEL classes school-wide. While there are many definitions of bullying, at OLG we define it as repeated, unwanted, aggressive behavior, with the intention to cause harm, that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. Research shows that bullying and victimization can begin as early as 18 months of age and that everyone - those who bully, those who are targeted, and those who witness bullying - are negatively impacted for years to come.
Throughout the month, we'll discuss how to prevent bullying by acting with kindness, acceptance, and inclusion, how to identify bullying behaviors, and what to do if we see, hear, or experience bullying. Next week, Wednesday October 18, we will celebrate National Unity Day, by encouraging students to wear free dress if they participate in the day by wearing orange.
Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center has tools and tips for guardians, vidoes, book lists, and a Kid's Against Bullying interactive webpage. As always, please reach out to me with questions or concerns.

Are you interested in service to our community? Are you looking for a way to get involved in service at OLG and beyond?
For over 10 years, OLG has had an annual Day of Service, an opportunity for everyone at OLG to participate in a service project on a single day in the spring. Last year, we expanded the Day of Service to include four additional parishes and another school (St. George, St. Peter, St. Paul, and St. Edward). This year we have interest from other parishes including our new Partners in the Gospel "family" parishes! If you'd like to learn more about this and how to be involved our first meeting for the year will be on Monday, Oct 23rd. Please contact Karen Fitton for more details or to learn how you can become involved.

Thank you to Everyone Who Partipated in our Input Sessions!
We have submitted all the responses to the Archdiocese who will then review them. They will then create a synthesis for each Parish Family which will guide the Priests Personnel Board in making pastor assignments. Some of you have asked if there will be a synthesis made available to the parishioners. We will not because the input was intended for the Archdiocese (not the parish), and participants were told it would be kept confidential. We will share it with our Leadership Core Team to help guide their efforts in supporting our parish as we move forward towards becoming a new Parish Family. More to come…

Synod Update: Why is There so Little News Coming from the Synod in Rome?
Pope Francis told the synod members at the beginning that participation required “a certain fasting from speaking in public” to “safeguard” the synod’s discernment process of listening to each other and most importantly, the Holy Spirit. As the synod moved from small group discussions to listening to reports and speeches our Archbishop Etienne of Seattle said he was grateful for the pauses for silence and reflection that punctuated the morning session. But there were still a lot of speeches in many languages. “It is a fascinating experience, I can tell you that,” he said, adding that he would encourage people “to keep praying for us, to invoke the Holy Spirit upon us because that’s the voice we’re listening for.” Check our website for more information and update
