Congratulations to our 3rd graders and their Saint presentations
Presenting to the class about
St. Victor
Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

Happy Veterans' Day weekend! Here in November we honor our saints in our lives, including all those who serve our country! Our 4th grade class led the school in our assembly today. Veteran (and 42 year member of OLG Parish) Bill Dwyer stands with our guest speakers Tiffany Bothell (Iraq Vet) & Bruce Kilian (Vietnam Vet & grandfather of current 2nd & 4th grade OLG students). The 4th Grade Class Service project also entailed collecting Treats for Troops! Together we collected over 100 lbs of Halloween candy, delivering a sweet treat to Veterans and active duty military who can not be with their families for the holiday. Thank you all for your candy donations—as hard as they are to part with for some kiddos—they are sure to be appreciated :-)

This past week we had two other incredible community events: the CYO Italian Dinner and the Greater West Seattle Middle School info night ! Both were incredibly well attended and helps keep our school and parish known in the community. As we get closer to Thanksgiving and the holidays, keep an eye out for the community Fair Trades/Gift Sale, your Charleston Wrap orders arriving in the mail, and Auction procurement commitments coming through! There are also more parish events as well to get involved with too as we gather together and Breathe new Life into the life of our families and community around us.

Enjoy the holiday tomorrow as our office and school is closed. Plenty to read about below of our upcoming events!
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

Counselor Corner
Happy November! Here's a brief summary of what is happening in SEL class

  • With puppet friends Taylor and Sloan, PreK is working to identify feelings, in ourselves and in others.
  • In Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade we spent the first couple months of school practicing solving small problems by using Kelso's Choices. We even made puppets to help us practice (2nd grade pictured here)! This week we began Unit 1 of Second Step, learning about Growth Mindset and Goal Setting.
  • 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades are getting close to wrapping up their Growth Mindset and Goal Setting Unit in Second Step. We've practiced setting goals that are specific, challenging but doable, and motivating. We've learned about progress markers that help us know if we are on track, identifying and working around roadblocks, and modifying our plans to reach our goals.
  • 8th grade is doing some reflecting on what makes them who they are - their identity - as well as their strengths and interests, so that we may create goals for the future.

Please note this important event sponsored by the Archdiocese Mental Health Ministry Nov 29th: SafeTALK: A Suicide Prevention Workshop

Discerning the Diaconate for Women
The question of women and the diaconate is a living conversation and an active discernment in our Church. In a listening, participatory and synodal Church, it is a question not only for Synods of Bishops, but it is a discernment for the entire people of God, including here at OLG. If you would like to help our parish participate in a world-wide discernment process, contact Helen. More about Discerning Deacons

GOOD NEWS!! The Washington State Catholic Conference released a statement that calls for policy makers to develop and implement a holistic plan to care for creation and the common good in the Lower Snake River region. The bishops state that the Original Peoples of Washington state should be “principal dialogue partners” in forming a comprehensive plan for the Lower Snake River region. This plan should serve the common good, care for creation, and consider the treaties and rights of the Original Peoples of Washington state and those who live and work in the Lower Snake River region.
