Dear OLG Families,
The annual auction is just a few days away, and we are SOLD OUT! Thank you already, for the support of our largest fundraising event of the year, and thank you to our co-chairs and auction committee who have been working tirelessly! It’s going to be a fantastic evening and we look forward to rocking out with all of you!
Just a reminder that the online auction is open to all (see above, and in the auction section!), attending or not in-person, until Friday! This is a great way to bid, partake in the Fund-a-Need (see video above!), and support the auction and our school!
Tomorrow is Sports Day Spirit Wear! Students may support their favorite sports team or wear CYO gear too! As always, uniforms are perfectly acceptable too. Please remember that Dress Code still applies.
Tonight there are just a few announcements, however, all are very important. Thank you for taking the time to read them.

As a campus that houses both a church, office and community space, sometimes events are happening in other buildings that we, as a school, are not aware of, especially if they do not intentionally impact us. Today there was a meeting at the parish office, for our One Parish, One Prisoner ministry. Members of the greater community, parish, archdiocese and Department of Corrections were on-site for a meet-and-greet and gathering to plan support for a person who will soon be released from incarceration. Due to the nature of their jobs, some members of the group gathered today were wearing bullet-proof vests and were armed. Unfortunately, some of the team members parked in the incorrect parking lot, and caused some upset with students who saw individuals with tactical gear roaming around, and looking for the meeting. As principal, as soon as we were made aware that they were on campus for a meeting, we got clarification and communicated it with the staff. Unfortunately, some students had already seen the officers before messages could be relayed to the kids for clarification, and some incorrect, fear-based rumors spread. Rumors that were heard were addressed immediately. I will personally be clarifying some that I was made aware of, after school, tomorrow morning. As principal, I want to personally reassure each of you, that if there was ever an emergency, safety concern, lock down, etc. we would communicate with you immediately. It would not be something you heard about for the first time, in the car on the way home. Moving forward, I have asked the parish to inform me of any and all meetings that may be of this nature, so that I can personally communicate with families and students ahead of time, to alleviate fear and concern and quash any and all possibilities for inaccurate rumors or communications. Know that I would never intentionally leave you in the dark. On behalf of myself, and the parish, if your child came home with any upset about the visitors at the parish office/ on campus today, we apologize. If you would like to learn more about this really special ministry, I encourage you to check out the parish website.

Tuition Assistance: If you applied for tuition assistance (Due by 12/31/23), letters will be mailed out to you early next week. As mentioned since the fall, tuition assistance is less than it has been in previous years. Please know that the Tuition Assistance Committee has worked tirelessly to justly and equitably support families that need financial assistance in order to make OLG accessible, and will be offering as much as we are capable of offering due to our own financial needs as a school. Thank you for understanding.

Registration closes on the 15th of March, but please do not wait! This year, 40% of our classes have waitlists. This is a great problem to have! Please register as soon as possible so that we know how many spots we have available. We sincerely hope to have each of your families back next year. If you have questions, please make an appointment to meet with me.
Have a great rest of your week. I look forward to seeing so many of you at the auction!

Family Faith Sunday Mar 3rd at the School Hall
This Sunday, March 3, from 9:30-10:45, we are in the School Hall (lower level of the school - enter on 34th Ave). Our theme has two parts this month which actually do connect: Acting on our Faith During Lent; Taking Action for Peace
During Lent we take actions that will grow our roots of faith deep. A tree with deep, strong roots will sway in the storm but not break. It is resilient as we must be in our faith. With the wars in Ukraine and between Isarael and Gaza, we see this storm in full force. We might not be able to directly help the people in these wars, but we can pray for peace and work for a peaceful world where we do live. What can we do here to spread peace in our community? What can we do to strengthen our faith and grow in resilience?
Lenten Fish Friday Dinner
What a great turnout for our first of three Fish Friday Dinners. We even had four young adults join us from Fremont who were looking for a Fish Dinner online and found us! The next one is on Friday, March 8th, 6:00-8:00 pm, hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Donations will be accepted to support CRS Rice Bowl. Invite your friends and neighbors to join you!
Adult Confirmation Preparation Program
Begins on Tuesday, April 9th 6:30-7:45 pm by Zoom. The sacrament of Confirmation completes our Catholic initiation and makes it possible for us to participate as godparents, sponsors, and other liturgical roles in our Church. Contact Helen 206-935-0358

Synod Update: Another Consulation Phase with You!
The Synod concludes this October, 2024 with a second Synod Assembly. During this interim phase between the two Synod Assemblies, the Vatican has invited local Churches to undertake a second consultation, this time on the theme of the co-responsibility of the baptized. Our parish is hosting three listening sessions to gather feedback to share with the US Bishops and the larger Church:
- Saturday, March 2, 10:00 am-12:00 noon, Pastoral Center Downstairs
- Tuesday, March 5, 12:00 noon-2:00 pm, Pastoral Center Guadalupe Room
- Tuesday, March 5, 6:30-8:30 pm, by Zoom
You can sign up HERE.

Volunteers Needed to Help Feed the Hungry in our Neighborhood
Our Parish Garden provides fresh vegetables for our local foodbanks and our Safe Parking Guests. Contact Helen. We need volunteers to help with the following:
-
Coordinator(s): Our long time faithful leader, Laura Vanderpool, is “retiring” and this ministry needs one or hopefully two volunteers willing to coordinate this ministry. This includes overseeing the care of the gardens with the support of volunteers and an annual Rice Bowl Grant. Time commitment is generally from April to October.
-
Repairing Irrigation System: There are several leaks in the irrigation system that need to be repaired. It is a fairly simple repair of PVC piping but does require some digging. Hope to have it completed by April 1st.
-
Gardeners: Volunteers are needed to help maintain the garden beds throughout the growing season, including planting, weeding and harvesting. Time commitment is flexible throughout the growing season, and there will also be group work parties scheduled (with donuts!) It is a great ministry for families to do together.
