Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

Thank you for the support of our teachers! Last Friday was a retreat and inservice for our teachers to focus on our mission, especially developing leadership and service in our students. Just like Jesus did in the weekend Gospel message of the Women at the Well, we are all called to reach out to the marginalized, whether in our classrooms our out in the community. This timely training was the first to be partly supported by our Academic Excellence Initiative focusing and supporting our teachers in working with our diverse students (click here to read more). Our matching gift of $10,000 post-auction is available all this month to bring us to our full goal of teacher support (donate here to help us get that match)!

Your family can also take part in serving those marginalized by our society. Join the OLG community in the March 25th Day of Service to model our call to action (and have fun with friends too). Busy on March 25th? You can still help with the "Seafarers & Homeless/Homebound Kits" donations.

Pie/Pi winners! March 14th is our annual pi day celebrations in the school and our middle school students were great servant leaders in the younger grade classes! Additionally Nine middle schoolers participated in OLG’s annual Pi-Reciting Contest! Congratulations to: Rocco A, Evi Z, Sam V, Gianna P, Vera H, Evolette L, and our top 3 contestants:
1st Place: Nicole T. (208 digits)!!!
2nd Place: Lena D. (108 digits)
3rd Place: Nathan W. (40 digits)

Congrats to our fabulous student leaders and the great activities happening at OLG. Read on for info on tonight's Lenten dinner, events this weekend (and next), and so much more (including OLG summer camps)!
Yours in Christ,

Counselor Corner
This week in SEL students in K - 5 are growing their understanding of empathy and how understanding how someone is feeling can help us be a better friend, family-member, student, and servant leader. Middle school students are exploring the links between emotions and thoughts, thoughts and decisions, and how the brain reacts.

Tuesday was the last day to submit entries for the Doodle for Google contest. We had many students choose to enter their artwork and gratitude statements to the contest! Here's just a sampling of some of the great student creations.

Partners in the Gospel
Our parish’s Leadership Team is committed to keeping parishioners up to date on this important Archdiocesan’s initiative to respond to current realities facing parishes. This includes answers to questions, recent developments, and parish opportunities to participate in the process in our bulletin, newsletter, and on our WEBSITE
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION: Why now?
Today we face many realities that are impacting parish life and making it difficult to fully live out our mission. We face an urgent — yet exciting —opportunity to transform parish life. Over the past few decades our local Catholic Church has experienced a decrease of engaged parishioners, fewer priests, dwindling finances, deteriorating campus conditions and more. Here are just a few statistics:
  • Today the archdiocese has 80 diocesan pastors for 174 locations; by 2036, we estimate we will only have 66 diocesan pastors, an 18% decrease.
  • While the overall population the Archdiocese of Seattle is growing, registered households are declining, along with Mass attendance, baptisms, first communions, marriages in the Church and parish giving:
  • From 2010 to 2019, Mass attendance as a percentage of total registered parishioners declined from 40.7% to 35.5%.
  • Between 2010 and 2019, baptisms declined 30% and weddings declined nearly 19%.
  • Currently, 67% of parishes operate with a financial deficit (excluding extraordinary income, which is income apart from Sundays and Holy Days).
Sunday, Mar 19, 12 pm - 4 pm at OLG Walmesley Center (gym)
