Dear Families,
Wishing you a happy third week of Lent, today from Rancho Cucamonga, California. I am down here, leading an accreditation, as the chair always comes from a different (arch)diocese, and was able to witness their Stations of the Cross re-telling, just a our seventh graders lead ours on Good Friday. Speaking with their staff, parent board, and student councils, it’s been special to see the common threads that Catholic schools share-- commitment to mission, love of community, faith at the center, and a love of service. Working to support their community continuously reminds me why I love our community, and the way that we work together to be mission-aligned, supporting one another and helping all of our learners to grow.
Today we have a handful of community announcements to share.
First, if you applied for tuition assistance, it was updated in Finalsite on Friday, and letters were mailed out this week. Financial aid is designed to support families who are honestly, truly in need of assistance to make Catholic education accessible to them and their families. It is meant for families who choose to invest in Catholic education, just as much as the school invests in their children. We recognize that this sometimes means having to make tough choices between what is valued and prioritized. You should not have to choose between food on the table or OLG, and our goal is to help make that less of a burden. While we recognize that all families could benefit from a discounted rate, some families need it. We prioritize these families with the small budget for tuition assistance that we have. We encourage families to pay it forward, if there comes a time where they do not need assistance, and make it available for those who truly do. Our school is diverse because we make opportunities for families of many socioeconomic backgrounds to access a Guadalupe education. Though we cannot make OLG tuition-free, and though we cannot cover tuition increases in more aid, we consciously do what we can to meet the needs of our families, not just the wants. Thank you for your understanding, and your support. This year, we are asking any family who received aid to write thank you letters to our various donors. If you applied for TAP and were awarded it, please keep a look out for the details of these thank you letters, next week.
Secondly, today Mr. Serpanos (6th grade homeroom/ middle school science) shared that he will be leaving OLG at the end of the school year. The middle school students and families were informed earlier today, and I will personally be speaking to 5th grade upon my return on Monday. As an administration and middle school team, we are committed to finding the right fit to join our middle school teaching team, to support the needs of all learners, and will be posting the position next week. Though Mr. Serpanos’ announcement may seem early, it’s actually the perfect time in the educational hiring process, and we are committed to finding an excellent science teacher to begin in the fall. Mr. Serpanos has spent the past two school years with us, and has helped our students to continue to learn and grow, and develop knowledge and passion for science. We thank him for the work that he has put in, and the ideas that he has brought to OLG. Through transitions can be challenging, we appreciate working in collaboration with Mr. Serpanos to make it as easy as possible for our students. Together we will work to finish the year strong for all of our middle school students, and set them up for continued success today through the end of the year.
Next Steps:
- Next week, I will speak personally to the 5th grade class about the transition.
- The job will be posted early next week. If you know qualified candidates who you feel may be a good fit for the job, please have them reach out to me directly.
- Administration and the Middle School Team will screen and search for qualified candidates and conduct interviews.
-
News of the search process and findings will be shared as we go along, to the whole community in the weekly newsletter. Individualized communications to families or grade bands will not be sent, as providing everyone the same information is key. Change is hard. Patience is paramount, as we seek to find the right fit, not just a fit.
Thank you, Mr. Serpanos, for being a part of our OLG family. We wish you nothing but the best in all that is ahead for you, and for your commitment to our students to finish they year strong. Families, if you have any questions, please let me know. If it is a question that I can answer, I will do so, or tell you “I can’t answer that”.
Wishing you all a positive rest of the week. Thank you for your grace, patience and team work.

With our growing aftercare program, I kindly ask that you update your child’s attendance if they will be absent or joining us through sign-up genius. Your help ensures a smooth experience for everyone.

School Fund Drive – Help Us Reach 100% Participation!
A huge thank you to our parents who have already contributed to our School Fund Drive! Your generosity has helped us reach halfway to our goal, thanks to the support of our large donors and alumni.
As we move into Spring and the final months of the school year, we are striving for 100% participation from all current families. Every gift—no matter the size—makes a meaningful impact on our students and school community.
In last week’s FCE, you will find a School Fund Drive (SFD) card. Please take a moment to fill it out and return it in the provided envelope. If it’s easier for your family, you can choose to make multiple monthly payments or a one-time gift—whatever works best for you.

During this Lenten season, we invite you to prayerfully consider making a contribution to our School Fund Drive.
Student Incentive: Any class that reaches 100% participation will be rewarded with an ice cream party!

Prayers continue for Fr. Phuong and Fr. Tim as our parish leaders, and for our shared parish family. And for Fr. Kevin and Fr. Jack.
For our community members whose family members who are fighting cancer and other ailments.
For all families, students, children and community members be joyful and full of hope!
For all the victims of the California wildfires, and for the students, faculty, staff and alumni at Corpus Christi Catholic School in Pacific Palisades who lost their school and parish, and have had to find new places to learn and grow.
For all who have recently lost loved ones, and for those who continue to feel the loss of loved ones long-passed. May God grant peace and healing to those who remain, and eternal rest in Heaven for those who have been sent home to the Lord. May perpetual light shine upon them.
Prayers for Pope Francis and his healing.
In gratitude for our OLG community and the love that you share.
