Principal's Letter

Dear Families,

First and foremost, thank you. Thank you for such a wonderful and successful auction on Saturday night. The final numbers are not in, but I can confidently say that we did quite well this year, and exceeded our goal! Hats off to the auction team, especially Heather and Courtney, who made the night such a smashing success. And to all of you who participated in the auction in any capacity, thank YOU for your generosity, including those who were generous with their time and talents. After eleven years, this wonderful community continues to surprise me in so many ways everyday. You are special (and we are blessed beyond measure) indeed.

As usual, so many things are happening on campus these days and in our community. Please pay close attention to all of the sections below, especially some fantastic last minute auction opportunities, including participating in the Fund-a-Need for this year, and last year’s (as it’s an ongoing initiative), AND Rolling Stones awesomeness. Check it out!

As your laundry can probably attest, the mud, due to lack of wood chips, has gotten bad. The good news?! We have a solution! MORE WOOD CHIPS! They are being delivered tomorrow. Available with a shovel or helping hand? We need you. Come around 10am, out in the gym parking lot. Dave is excitedly awaiting your assistance! Thank you in advance. Your washer machine and spot cleaner thank you also.

Enrollment closes on the 15th for returning families. Please get those done ASAP, so that we can work on accurately budgeting and planning for next year. If you are holding off until tuition assistance letters come out, they will be in the mail tomorrow. You should receive them (possibly tomorrow) or over the weekend. A reminder that a $50 late fee will be added on to any registration after the 15th, and your spots will not be held.

Lastly, before you read so much exciting information below, there is a bit of hiring news that is often expected this time of year. The great news is that the overwhelming majority of our staff will be returning next year, including 12 out of 13 of our homeroom teachers. Tonight, I share with you the news that Mr. Zwaller has decided to take an opportunity of a lifetime, moving into a full-time soccer coaching position, and will be departing OLG as a homeroom teacher at the end of the year. He has loved his time here at OLG, and if this opportunity hadn’t been offered to him, his dream job, he’d have stayed forever. We wish him the very best of luck, and are excited to finish the year with him. As this is early in the hiring season, I am confident that we will find an extraordinary fifth grade teacher to fill his shoes, and be a wonderful fit for our community and mission, and for the incoming 5th grade students. Once the job is posted online, it will also be posted on our website. Please send any prospective candidates my way.

Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend. Tomorrow at our staff retreat, focused on prayer, we will be holding all of you in our thoughts and prayers, as we reflect on the many ways we can continue to grow in our mission, Catholic identity and who we are called to be as people of faith, justice, service, mercy, hope and love.

With Gratitude,

Ms. Lauren Hobbs

Q: WHAT WILL CHANGE AT PARISHES WHEN THIS IS IMPLEMENTED ON JULY 1ST?

A: Several things will change immediately and many more will evolve over time with input from the community. Immediate changes include:

  • One pastor and one or more parochial vicars will be assigned – many or all of whom will be “new” to that parish community (but not “new” to ministry);
  • Mass times will change at some locations;
  • Parish leadership meetings – it will be impossible for the pastor to attend numerous finance council meetings or school commission meetings that are on the same night so schedules will likely need to be adjusted.
