Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

In our final week of April our spring weather finally arrives! Read on below for many updates, news, and way to get involved with those last volunteer hours to log! And don't forget to take our short 4 question Parent Survey for the Principal Search Committee.

Next Friday (5/5) is a Noon Dismissal & class picture day! As staff we are using the afternoon to prepare for our Academic Excellence consultant coming later in May, learning from each other in the workshops and professional developments attended earlier this year, and also studying the ever changing role of AI technology in schools and classrooms.

As we look to our remaining months together, our enrollment for next year continues to fill with more visits, tours, and interests coming in. Our current 1st grade friends would love to have more join their classroom next year, so spread the word especially in that grade! Our current 2nd graders are celebrating next weekend their first sacraments... join us! OLG is "lifting-up" all in our community!
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

Loop the 'Lupe
Loop the Lupe Needs You!!
OLG’s annual event is just around the corner and we need of more volunteers. Our greatest needs include:
  • 4 volunteers to assemble the mud pit on the Friday before the race (6/2)
  • 10 volunteers to move and build obstacles the morning of the race (6/3)
  • 6 volunteers to set up tables and chairs the morning of the race (6/3)

There are less physical positions available too but the above is critical.

Partners in the Gospel
Our parish’s Leadership Team is committed to keeping parishioners up to date on this important Archdiocesan’s initiative to respond to current realities facing parishes. CLICK HERE for more information, including next steps.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION: Does this mean parishes/churches are closing?
A: No — not necessarily. First, it is important to note the parish is not the church building. The parish is the community of the faithful and all that comes with it. A parish family is comprised of different parish communities that will eventually become one canonical parish. Decisions will be made at the local level to reflect the needs of each parish community. The parish leadership, with input from parishioners and guidance from the Holy Spirit, will make decisions about how to best carry out the mission locally. This means that the new parish will determine many things, such as what ministries to provide, what outreach to the community is possible, what Mass times to offer and what properties and buildings will be used and when.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS ABOUT PARTNERS IN THE GOSPEL? Listening Sessions are open to everyone and offered at a variety of times in person or by Zoom (similar to the Synod sessions last Fall). There will also be some specifically focused on school families, faculty and staff. Upcoming dates include:
  • Saturday, 5/13, 4:00-5:15 pm in Pastoral Center
  • Monday, 5/15, 7:00-8:30 pm by Zoom
  • Wednesday, 5/17, 10:00-11:30 am in Pastoral Center
  • Saturday, 5/20, 9:00-10:30 am by Zoom
  • Sunday, 5/21, 9:30-10:45 am in the Stage Area (during Coffee & Donuts)

The 2023 Annual Catholic Appeal is Underway!
This weekend OLG’s Pastoral Associate, Helen Oesterle, will share the impact of the Annual Catholic Appeal to minister to those in need, build the Catholic faith within us and directly support our parish mission services. Please consider how you are a part of this mission and Archbishop’s message of “Give, and it will be given to you.” Take time to read the campaign materials and prayerfully consider how you and your family will participate. To make a pledge or give directly go to www.archseattle.org/GiveACA. It is safe, secure, and convenient. If you recently made a gift, thank you so much.
Global Synod Update
In recent months, groups have gathered all over the world to develop responses to the working document for the Continental Stage. Those responses will be used to develop a working document this summer, which will then be used in October with participants of the General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops (Universal Stage). The October 2023 meeting is the first of two meetings, with the second scheduled for October of 2024. Below are some resources:
You can find these and other information about the Synod on our parish website,

We Need More Volunteers to Assist in our Liturgies!
Are you interest in being...
  • An altar server? Children 4th grade and older, including adults, are invited to participate in this important ministry. This is a great opportunity for families to serve together.
  • A Eucharistic Minister? Due to the pastoral needs of providing communion to all the faithful, the Church authorizes lay people to distribute communion at Mass and to persons who are sick and/or homebound. Persons must also be fully initiated into the Church, having celebrated baptism, confirmation and First Communion.
  • A reader? Looking for youth and adults who love Scripture and feel comfortable speaking in a public setting to sign up. It is a great way to share your gifts with the parish.
Training for these ministries will be provided based on your availability.  Contact Helen Oesterle 206-935-0358 for more information.

OLG Garden Work Parties
This Sunday, Apr 30 12:00 pm and Sunday, May 20 9:00-11:30 am
Did you know that the garden beds next to the labyrinth raise fresh produce for the West Seattle Food Bank? With the arrival of warmer weather (Yeah!), volunteers are needed to weed, disperse compost, and plant seeds and vegetable starts. We also hope to spread mulch on the perennial garden next to St. Francis. Tools are available but you are encouraged to bring your own gloves. Qualifies for volunteer hours!
