Principal's Letter

Dear OLG Community,

We have grown so much as a community and as individuals. It has been fantastic to see such growth from the students in their academics, their self confidence, their service, their compassion, empathy, faith, friendships and beyond. Learning is so much greater than just what is in the textbook, and it consistently goes far beyond the bounds of any classroom. Together our community has been home to people for others, and people who live our mission. Our theme this year was Disciples with Hope to Bring, and together as a community, we brought hope in spades. We brought joy, we brought collaboration, enrichment, kindness and support. We brought in nearly 11 thousand hours of service as a whole community, brought in new families, new neighbors, and impacted the lives of countless individuals beyond the margins of the Guadalupe grounds. Our lives, I find, are richer for the way that we welcome the stranger and love our neighbors, and my life is better for the impact of each of you as individuals and as a whole.

Tomorrow is our final day. We end as we began, with All School Mass. Together as a community grounded in our faith and common mission, we celebrate what unites us, show gratitude for the gifts of others, and say goodbye to the teachers and students who are leaving us this year. We will celebrate our rising 8th graders who have shown initiative for the Haggerty Leadership Award (and as a class, who will be leading our Mass), and celebrate many teachers and staff members for their years of service to OLG and Catholic education.

As a staff, we thank you truly and deeply for your commitment to Catholic education, and in particular to OLG. We know that it is a choice to be here, and we thank you for the ways in which you have enriched our home away from home with your involvement, service, collaboration and heart.

Wishing all of you a wonderful summer. I will be praying for each of you while at Notre Dame this summer. Keep an eye out for a few newsletters this summer, especially as we move closer to returning.

Cheers to all and congratulations on the (near) completion of a beautiful year.

With Gratitude,

Ms. Lauren Hobbs

Band News

To the wonderful families of OLG

Can't you feel it each time you walk into Guadalupe School? Christ's warmth is SO present! It was that way for me when I entered for the first time in the fall of 1984! It is still the same! Perhaps even stronger!!

It has been an honor to be your band director these many years! I will cherish all the students, parents, principals and faculty/staff that I have had the privilege to work with. Together we made a dream come true by providing instrumental music in our Catholic schools! Thank you!

That dream continues with the new director, Mr. Sean Deegan. A young and talented educator that loves this age level and is eager to continue the joy of music! Let us warmly welcome him!

You have been an extended family to me! It is easy to say, I love you all! At graduation the Hands of Christ Award is presented. Your school is the HEART of Christ! These past weeks have been overwhelming with that very love!

I am moved beyond words!

God's blessings be yours!

With deep and loving gratitude,

Frances McKamey

Middle School Science Position Update

We are fortunate to have had many candidates apply for our open middle school teacher position at OLG. Our goal is to find the right fit, rather than a fit. For this reason, we are still actively seeking a mission-aligned, certified and passionate educator who loves middle schoolers, science, and works well on a collaborative team. If you know a qualified candidate, seeking a full-time position as a teacher in a Catholic school, please have them contact Ms. Hobbs directly at lhobbs@guadalupe-school.org.

Prayers

Prayers continue for Fr. Phuong and Fr. Tim as our parish leaders, and for our shared parish family. And for Fr. Kevin and Fr. Jack.

For our community members whose family members who are fighting cancer and other ailments.

For all families, students, children and community members be joyful and full of hope!

For all who have recently lost loved ones, and for those who continue to feel the loss of loved ones long-passed. May God grant peace and healing to those who remain, and eternal rest in Heaven for those who have been sent home to the Lord. May perpetual light shine upon them.

Prayers for Pope Leo XIV.

In gratitude for our OLG community and the love that you share.

Participate in the ACA

Thank you to the many of you who have already made your gift.

To maintain the in-parish tuition verification requirements, school families with in-parish school tuition gifts are required to participate in the ACA drive. There are a variety of ways to give:

  • Make a gift online by visiting www.archseattle.org/GiveACA
  • Scan the QR code on the pew envelope, bulletin, or posters.
  • Mail in the pew/pledge envelope or drop it in the collection basket.

If you have not made your donation, please prayerfully consider your gift to the 2025 Annual Catholic Appeal. In addition to the ministries that support those in need, the Annual Catholic Appeal also directly supports the staff of West Seattle Catholic Community and Fr. Phuong and Fr. Tim.
