Dear Families,
I hope that you all enjoyed God’s little weather reminder that technically speaking, it’s not quite Fall, yet. Growing up mainly in California, I live for the sunny days. Though after thirteen years here, I must admit that Fall is one of my favorite seasons, just before the “Big Dark”. Fall also comes with MAP testing (1st- 8th grade) and delightful things like colds, flu, forgotten coats, abandoned sweatshirts, runny noses, and, speaking of running-- the Jog-a-Thon! This week, I share with you a few small reminders.
MAP Testing (1st- 8th Grade): MAP is a standardized test, and just one data point that we use to assess the kids, and make sure that we are meeting their learning needs. This is a test that occurs twice a year, and the results will be shared at Fall Conferences. We use this data to inform our instruction, identify areas to challenge and support each child, and learn more about your children as individuals. The test is untimed, and challenges children at their own grade level, and beyond. As an adaptive test, no two tests are identical, with questions changing as they are answered, to really establish an understanding of your child as a learner. Again, this is just one of a multitude of data points. Please make sure your children are eating good breakfasts, and have healthy snacks and lunches packed. If your child is sick, there are make up test days and times, so not to worry. Your teachers should have communicated test days and times. Please reach out to your homeroom teacher (or in middle school also check planners/ Google Classrooms), if you are not sure when your child is testing. Tests are administered in math, reading and language usage (2nd- 8th grade).
Labeling of Belongings: As we head into fall, and cooler weather, please make sure that your children’s names are clearly written in their coats, sweatshirts, vests, etc. The lost and found is becoming home to brand new uniforms without names. Writing your child’s name helps us to return them to their rightful owners.
Cold and Flu season-- well folks, grab your kleenex and your masks, it’s arrived early. A friendly reminder-- if your child is sick, please do not send them to school, even on cold medicine. The current wave appears to be fast moving and contagious, whatever it is. If your child has a bad cough, fever (or has had a fever in the past 24 hours), has vomited in the last 24 hours, sadly please keep your kids home to rest. That is of course the best medicine, and slows any spread at school. Please communicate with teachers, and the office if your child will be staying home. We will do our best to gather work.
Jog-a-Thon! Jog-a-Thon is a week from Friday! Come cheer on and celebrate our Bulldogs. It’s a half day, and there is EDC/ Aftercare in the afternoon for those who need it. If your child is staying, please be sure to pack them a big lunch, as they’ll certainly be hungry.
Lastly-- you may have seen on social media that we won something at our INSPIRE marketing conference. OLG is getting a super awesome professional marketing video made! On Thursday, October 16th, we will have a camera crew at school, joining us all day and for ALL SCHOOL MASS. Please make sure to mark this on your calendars. All kids need to be in their blues for Mass. Our stockpile isn’t abundant. Please make sure they are ready to go, wearing them that day. Of course, we hope to see you for the 9am Mass, hosted by 5th grade. More to come as we get closer.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
