Congratulations Jog-A-Thon runners! | |
Dear Families,
It was a great day, being together outside in the sunshine for Jog-a-Thon. Thank you to our Jog-a-Thon co-chairs and committee members for all of your hard work organizing the event and making the day special! We have raised over $25K in online donations at this point, and are extending the turn in deadline to Monday! Way to go, Bulldogs!
Middle school families, thank you for taking your time to be with us last night for 6-8 Curriculum Night. I am continuously impressed and encouraged by the excellent staff we have. The focus, attention and even laughter that came down the hallways last year from families, was so wonderful to hear. Parents and guardians of all ages, as I said in the K-5 and 6-8 Curriculum Nights, our job is to work together as a team (parent/guardian and teachers/ staff) to support your children to grow and thrive. Together, we form them into the people of tomorrow, and set them up for success as they go forth into the world. We thank you for your partnership. As a principal and former teacher, I encourage you as families to reach out from time to time and share happy news, thanks, etc. for your teachers and staff. I can tell you personally that it means a great deal. I know that teachers look forward to opportunities to do the same.
Continuing the sharing of gratitude, I have noticed some improvement in the way that parking lot dismissal has been going this week. Thank you for continuing to be aware of your surroundings, walkers, for not walking in front of the carpool exit, and for remembering to use the crosswalk at all times, even if it’s slightly out of the way. Your modeling helps our students, young and old, to make safe choices.
Other Happenings:
- In the next few days, please keep an eye out for an email from SchoolAdmin/ FinalSite with a link to the updated handbook and acknowledgement page. We appreciate your time reading it and reviewing it with your family, and remembering the why that was shared at Curriculum Night (K-8), that all handbooks and policies were written in alignment with archdiocesan expectations and protocol, an understanding and recognition of our own school community and our diversity that we have, and in line with norms as we move forward with Partners in the Gospel, and cohesiveness in terms of expectations and guidelines. Remember too that many policies are not new, simply that there will be follow through and transparency as we head into the year.
- Please remember to watch for symptoms of illness (with Covid, strep and flu on the rise at school) and take preventative measures to ensure the health and wellbeing of your children and the entire community. If the spread can be prevented by staying home or seeking treatment when necessary, we encourage you to make the responsible choice as parents/guardians, even if it’s not the most fun choice. We thank you for reducing the spread of illness whenever you can.

Pay close attention to the dates below. This Sunday, students who come to Mass at 11am in full dress uniform for Catechetical Sunday, in full dress uniform, can get a free dress pass from a teacher. Find me or a staff member to pick up that pass!
Wishing you all a healthy, restful, and sunny weekend.

This week starts Lunch Bunch and Snack Buddies!!
Each week, Ms. Kim will randomly select three students to join her for snack (grades K and 1) or lunch (grades 2 through 5). Participation is voluntary and is a great way for students to practice important social skills, like asking questions, listening, waiting for your turn to speak, and discovering things in common with someone else. We may even play a game or do some coloring if time allows! I don't currently have a middle school lunch bunch, but I am considering options.
Meanwhile, in SEL, all grades are reviewing Kelso's Choice for solving small, interpersonal problems. Kelso's Wheel is posted around the school as a reminder that all students are strong enough and smart enough to solve their own small problems.

Two more weeks to give your input about the proposed pairing of OLG with Holy Rosary
This draft of families comes after months of consultation with the archdiocese’s Presbyteral Council, the Oversight Committee, priests, deacons, parish and school staffs and lay leaders. These parish families were developed based on parishes’ size, geography, cultural and ethnic makeup, financial health and school presence. Some parishes stand alone because they are run by a religious order or serve a specific cultural community. Sign up now for one of our Input Sessions now as the public feedback period ends on October 10th . If you are unable to attend one of the sessions, you can provide your feedback by going HERE. You can also find it on our website where you can also see the entire proposed plan.

OLG MINISTRY FAIR is next weekend after all the Masses. Come learn more about all the ministries here at our parish, discover ways to get involved, and meet other parishioners. There will also be opportunities to participate with a variety of activities, including helping to knit a scarf for those who are homeless and testing your knowledge of the faith. There will also be an activity table for children and the Knights of Columbus.
Interested in learning about the Catholic Faith / Becoming Catholic?
You are invited to participate in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), a process of initiation into the Catholic community of faith. It encompasses the study of Scripture, Catholic teaching, and Christian values—the development and deepening of a life of prayer and action-all with the support and involvement of the parish community. Participants can go at their own pace. A new inquiry group just began. Contact Helen Oesterle // More RCIA information
Adult Confirmation Preparation Program begins on Tuesday, Oct 3 from 6:30-8:00 pm by Zoom. There are 8 sessions. The sacrament of Confirmation completes our Catholic initiation and makes it possible for us to participate as godparents, sponsors, and other liturgical roles in our Church. Contact Helen

Turn off all outdoor lights for migratory birds! Every year in the spring and fall, millions of birds migrate along the Pacific Flyway—the migratory path that stretches over 4,000 miles from the coast of Mexico to the Arctic Circle. And each year, light pollution from populated areas can disorient and disrupt the rhythms of these birds. This can confuse, exhaust, and even endanger migrating birds—a 2014 study estimated that between 365 and 988 million birds collide with buildings in the US every year! Turn off or dim non-essential lighting during critical migration periods! And further, Lights Out does more than save birds, it saves energy and money!
