Principal's Letter

Dear OLG Families,

A week into school, and the building is bursting with life, joy and the many things that make OLG such a wonderful place to grow, learn and thrive. Here on campus, the hours go by quickly, and day after day, I hear the reports from students, young and old, about the many things that fill their days, and what they enjoy the most. Today, I heard about the love of math class, and the excitement of scooters in PE, and even our Pre K’ers learning their prayers out by the Big Toy.

Tonight, K-5 parents and guardians will be joining for Curriculum Night; a night that brings forth knowledge and opportunities for families to learn about their children’s learning, and ways that they will be challenged, guided and cared for over the course of the year, by their teachers and our faculty and staff. We are excited to see each of you for this mandatory night, and look forward to getting to know you, beginning first in the School Hall (entrance off of 34th SW). Refer to the information below, and in the Constant Contact that went home earlier in the week.

Next week, we will have Pre K and Middle School Curriculum Night, and will follow a similar pattern for gathering information.

In other news with communications, our Family Communication Envelopes (FCEs) are back! These are hard copy envelopes that will be sent home each month, with information for your families, in case you miss it in the digital newsletter. These will be sent home with your youngest child, and I will remind you of them when they go out. Please look through them, remove any handouts, and return anything that needs to be signed. Please return it to school ASAP (ideally, the next school day).

For K-5 Families, you will receive yours tonight at Curriculum Night. For Pre K and Middle School families, if your youngest child is in one of these categories, you will receive yours tomorrow. Goal? Send them back by Monday!

Pay attention to things like required Virtus, technology usage forms, jog-a-thon, and many other bits of news.

As we move forward into the month of September, please keep in mind the information shared in the calendar section below.

Additionally, if you are available to help with recess, while I truly LOVE the additional one on one time with your children, we sincerely need your help with coverage. What a great way to get your volunteer hours!

For those involved in after school CYO Soccer and sports, we have loved seeing the kids so pumped to play. For coaches and parents alike, please remember and be mindful that our students who do not play, need to be able to exit the building. Changing for practice should happen in the bathrooms, to comply with Safe Environment and general safety guidelines. It's easy for our kids, especially the youngest, to get caught up in all of the excitement, but sometimes it can cause unnecessary headaches, or students who aren't playing can get mixed into the groups with the friends. Thanks for your help, making this a smooth transition at the end of the day!

Lastly, I will be away from campus tomorrow, and possibly on Monday for my grandmother’s funeral in Oklahoma. If you need anything, please contact the office. Ms. Janet, our VP will be in charge in my absence.

I look forward to seeing so many of you this evening.

With Gratitude,

Ms. Lauren Hobbs

Saint Phoebe

This weekend, OLG will join over a hundred Catholic communities across the U.S. and beyond in celebrating St. Phoebe during the month of September as church leaders prepare to gather in Rome in October for the General Assembly of the Synod...More information can be found Here

“Let Justice & Peace Flow

The Season of Creation begins on September 1st and concludes on the feast of St. Francis on October 4. The theme this year is “Let Justice & Peace Flow”. Prophet Amos cries out: “But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5: 24) and so we are called to join the river of justice and peace, to take up climate and ecological justice, and to speak out with and for communities most impacted by climate injustice and the loss of biodiversity.

One way to celebrate it is participating in a special Novena: nine days of prayer giving thanks for all of creation and focusing on special sites in and around West Seattle, presented by the HR/OLG Care for Creation ministry. You are encouraged to visit specific sites when you pray, or you can simply visualize them as you pray at home, at work, or wherever you happen to be. The Novena and other information can be found at our parish website or look for printed copies in the church
