Kindergarteners having fun!
|
|
Dear OLG Families,
Our second week of school is underway and TONIGHT is our Kindergarten to 5th grade Curriculum Night @ 6:30pm. We will all gather in the School Hall (lower level entrance off of 34th Ave SW) and then quickly moving into our grade-level classrooms. You will be able to hear directly from your child's teachers their overview of the year's curriculum and activities! Note: individual conferences are scheduled for October 26-28. Tonight's curriculum night is intended for adults, not kids, and will include two opportunities if you are trying to get to multiple classrooms. Next Thursday evening (9/15) is for PS/PK and Grades 6-8 families.
Do you have an interested friend with kids entering K or 1st grade? We do have some room... and a referral bonus for current families! Invite your friend to come with you tonight and send them the link to the application page of our website!
Other news below includes:
- Parent Organization News (including all-important first meeting Tuesday night)
- Milk Ordering for all year!
- Halloween Carnival.
-
Our Jog-A-Thon fundraiser happens this month, concluding on Sept 30th
- Weekly Staff Introductions (new section)
-
CYO news + Cross country registration also ends soon!
- Confirmation information
As we Breathe Life into our school year together, I also want to update you quickly on the Fund-A-Need of last spring: Communications & Safety updates. Our new school intercom system has been a trial to get installed this summer as covid-related chip shortages and backorders have caused multiple delays. We do have exterior door upgrades and additional camera installation work scheduled for later this month. Also of note regarding safety; your child participated today in their first evacuation drill of the school year. All students and teachers were out of the building and accounted for within minutes! Great work Guad Squad! Next month we will have a test of the emergency notification system to families and an Earthquake drill.

Extra Diligence
- Be extra careful on the crosswalk and around campus. Cars aren't used to kids being back to school and its just a good reminder to parents/kids to be extra diligent.

New year, new roles....Breath of Life
A weekly introduction of OLG staff and the fresh life each is bringing this year!
We are excited to share that our 8th grade teacher, Lauren Hobbs, is adding a new role as Director of Curriculum Instruction and Professional Development this school year. In line with accreditation goals, Ms. Hobbs will be working closely with our administrative team to support new and returning teachers in professional development, instruction and curricular needs. As the Director of Curriculum Instruction and Professional Development, it is a goal that Ms. Hobbs will also be working to align school and parish initiatives. In order to provide Ms. Hobbs with the time necessary to make this new role one that is enriching for all while still teaching, we are actively seeking to add a staff member on the middle school team. The staffing increase will provide our 5th-8th graders an opportunity to learn from another instructor. If you or someone you know may be interested in this role, please see the job postings here, or contact Mr. Kramer directly.

Friday, September 30th
The theme for this year is "Good Vibes", which can be taken as a tie-dye/hippie theme or a sentiment for our Seattle Mariners, who we hope are still working on something special for the postseason in late-September.
During the month of September, each student is asked to collect donations for the school. All kids will run on Friday, September 30th at the Walt Hundley field. More information on how to fundraise, volunteer and how to get your kids ready will be coming.

The great CYO closet purge! We have cleaned out our closet and have a load of old sports uniforms waiting for a new home. A table will be set up at this evening's Curriculum Night meeting so stop on by and pick out some classics. We will also have the table out at a few after-school pickups. They are perfect for spirit wear days!
Save the date: The annual OLG CYO Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, Sept 30th at Foster Golf Links. Contact olg.cyoathletics@gmail.com if you are interested in attending. More info to come but there will be lots of great prizes!
