LIVESTREAM OPTIONS
Renewing the Oikos of God is the theme of this year’s Season of Creation, which will be an opportunity to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation.
During the Season of Creation, the Christian family unites in prayer and action for our common home to renew the Oikos of God. But… what is Oikos? Well, the root of the word Oikos comes from ancient Greek and can be attributed to two meanings: “house” or “family“. In this way, both concepts are integrated in a very meaningful way for us since the word house refers to the physical inhabited place, our common home, the planet Earth, and the family are those who inhabit the home, all the species that inhabit our common home. Our home is in danger!! The climate crisis is causing the loss of habitats and ecosystems that are home to millions of species. This also includes us, humans. Our home is endangered by climate disasters and conflicts, so it must be renewed. Our baptismal call urges us to renew the whole Earth, so that life can flourish. Please join us as our parish celebrates this Season in prayer, education, and action.

UPCOMING BAPTISM PREP CLASS

For parents and guardians seeking to have a young child baptized: the next Baptism Preparation Class will be September 15th from 6:30-8:00 pm via Zoom. If you would like to attend or have further questions, please contact Sarah Riggio
PREPARING CHILDREN FOR 1ST COMMUNION

Families with children at about age 7 (1st Grade) can begin their preparation. In conjunction with the Archdiocesan guidelines, preparation is a two-year process that includes preparation for First Reconciliation and culminates in the First Communion celebration during the Easter season. We have a comprehensive preparation program that includes family activities at home and in the parish, sessions with parents/guardians, and classes for the children.

WE NEED YOU
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP US WITH FUNERALS

One of the Works of Mercy is burying the dead. At OLG, we take very seriously this holy task by supporting families in celebrating the lives of their loved ones. Volunteers are needed for the following:
  • Camera Operator (it is much easier than you think)
  • Minister to assist Fr. Kevin
  • Funeral reception volunteers

Contact Helen, if you are interested.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO OPERATE CAMERAS FOR DAILY MASSES

We will continue live-streaming our daily masses but need more volunteers to help operate the camera. It is easier than you think and you can “shadow” the operation as long as needed until you feel comfortable to go solo! Contact Helen
IMPORTANT DATES
The Season of Creation begins September 1st and extends through the Feast Day of Saint Francis, October 4th. READ MORE... so you can see the collective efforts by the Creation Care Network (CCN) to live into the Season of Creation. We hope you can join us for one or all!
HELP OLG SERVE A MEAL AT THE WELCOME TABLE

During the pandemic, OLG has moved from providing a Community Meal on site to helping with The Welcome Table meal in White Center. This interfaith effort provides lunch, clothes, non-perishable food, hygiene and cleaning supplies, resources, and support every Saturday at noon for some of the most vulnerable residents in our area. We will host a meal again on Saturday, October 2nd.  We are looking for volunteers who can help hand out food and supplies from 11am-2pm that day. You can also provide donations or prepare supplies in advance (coffee, dish and laundry pods, wipes, non-perishable food, Ziploc bags, etc.). For more information or to sign up, contact Jennifer or call 206-935-0358 x.120
SEATTLE CITY COUNCIL FORUM: TELL US THE ISSUES THAT MATTER TO YOU!

On Monday, October 18th, OLG will be co-hosting a Seattle City Council Candidate Forum for the two at-large positions in Districts 8 and 9 with Candidates Teresa Mosqueda & Kenneth Wilson and Sara Nelson & Nikkita Oliver. We would like to make sure we cover the issues most important to the members of our community. To that end, please take our 1-minute survey by Sunday, September 26th to let us know what you’d like to see covered: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YQYZF68
Stay tuned for more information.
The weekend of September 18th & 19th our special collection will support the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. More than thirty-eight million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs that empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to bring permanent and positive change to their communities. SAFE PARKING UPDATE

Our Safe Parking ministry continues hosting guests, despite the challenges of COVID-19. One recent guest got a new job and moved to a different lot closer to work! We are currently seeking volunteers to help keep the Hospitality Hut clean and welcoming while St. Vincent de Paul keeps it stocked with food. Be part of the team and sign up for the date(s) that work for you each month. To volunteer, contact Jennifer or call (206) 935-0358 x.120
HEALTHY PLANET, HEALTHY PEOPLE PETITION

Our common home and common family are suffering. The climate emergency is causing rising seas, a warmer planet, and more extreme weather. It is devastating the lives of our poorest sisters and brothers, and biologists estimate that we’re driving species to extinction at a rate of 100 to 1,000 times their usual rate. “We have no such right” (Laudato Si, P33).

During this Season of Creation (Sept. 1-Oct. 4), we have an unprecedented opportunity, one petition aimed at two United Nations conferences. The Our Lady of Guadalupe/Holy Rosary Care for Creation ministry urges you to join Catholics worldwide in following the lead of Pope Francis in acting out our faith.

At the UN Biodiversity Conference in October, world leaders can set meaningful targets to protect creation. In November, at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference, countries will announce their plans to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Accord.

As Catholics, we must lift up the voices of the most vulnerable and advocate on their behalf. The time to act is now -- to learn more and to sign the petition ahead of these two important meetings, visit HERE!
SUPPORT HAITI

As you likely know, Haiti was recently hit by a massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake that has killed nearly 2000 people and injured nearly 10,000 more. Adding to the devastation, a tropical storm passed over the island nation this week, making aid efforts even more difficult. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has been serving in Haiti for many years and is on the ground working with partners and affected communities to identify the most urgent needs. Please consider donating to our parish collection to help CRS provide essential relief like clean water, sanitation, shelter, and emergency supplies. You can donate at Mass this weekend (make checks out to “OLG” with “Haiti” in the memo) or online. Thank you!
