ADD YOUR BOAT TO THE ONLINE FLEET & CALL ON LEADERS TO TAKE ACTION

The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) will take place in Glasgow from October 31st -November 12th. The COP26 summit will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. People of faith from around the world are organizing a massive prayer effort, calling upon the Holy Spirit to inspire the participants to do all they can to protect all of God’s creation. One way that you can participate in this effort is to send a prayer boat to COP26. Why prayer boats? Young Christian Climate Network (YCCN) is carrying a model boat on their pilgrimage, representing our hopes to set sail towards a more just future. Taking inspiration from YCCN’s boat, people are asked to create a prayer boat, together with their church.  You can display your boats as a focus for prayer, add them to our online fleet, use them to advocate for climate justice with our legislators and Church leaders, and send them to COP26. Your prayer boats will join with thousands of others in Glasgow and help us make sure decision-makers cannot ignore our calls for action.  For more information, including how to build your prayer boats, go to: https://www.christianaid.org.uk/pray/prayer-chain
WE NEED YOU
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR A STEERING COMMITTEE

As. Fr. Kevin writes in this week’s Pastor’s Letter, we are in the process of hiring an architect to help us in the design and creation of the sacred space for our tabernacle and new place of prayer. The Steering Committee will provide input throughout the entire process. Time commitment will involve attending several meetings for the next 6-7 months. If interested, contact Helen
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP ORGANIZE CHURCH PEWS

This job entails restocking the pews along with putting the Breaking Bread and Spirit & Songbooks back into their proper order. Since we are only using every other pew right now, it is half the work!!
It would be great to have two to three “teams” who can rotate each week. Great ministry for a family. Contact Helen, or 206-935-0358

IMPORTANT DATES
WORLD MISSION COLLECTION
10/16 & 10/17

On this World Mission Sunday, Pope Francis reminds us of our baptismal call - to respond as missionaries, saying "We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard" (Act 4:20) Today we respond to the call, through our prayers and personal sacrifices for our brothers and sisters in the Missions - in places like Uganda where people face food uncertainty and violence in the Philippines where local clergy face martyrdom... in Oceania where people's livelihoods are threatened by climate change... and in remote regions of Latin America where people are hearing the Gospel for the first time. Respond this World Mission Sunday by supporting the priests, religious Sisters, and Brothers, and lay catechists who provide loving service to those most in need. Thank You!

WELCOME KIT DRIVE: EVOLVING NEEDS

You may have seen the list, compiled by OLG Immigrant Ministry, with items needed to create Welcome Kits for Afghan Refugees. We learned this week that the larger community stepped up in a BIG WAY and the resettlement organizations no longer have storage space available! In response, we are changing directions for our Welcome Kit drive this upcoming Sunday, October 17th. If you already purchased items from the list, feel free to drop them by the Walmesley Center between
9:30 am -1:30 pm and we will store them until the agencies can receive them. If you haven’t done your shopping yet, please consider buying gift cards to places like Safeway, Fred Meyer or Goodwill instead. If you prefer, you can give directly to the resettlement and relief organizations: Lutheran Immigrant and Refugee Services, Afghan Health Initiative, or World Relief. Our Immigrant Ministry has also compiled a list of ways you can get more involved.

Thank you for your care and generosity!
