OLL Musical Legacy Continues with Moana Jr.
Watch live stream March 10, 11
Lakers know that OLL always puts on a great show (visit our spring musical page to see a historical list of musicals from the past). This spring our middle school is presenting Moana Jr. and you can purchase tickets or watch the show live on our YouTube channel on March 10 and 11.

Under the direction of Jennifer Kush (‘94), the musical program at OLL has evolved to include a broader cast (6-8th graders), students running the front of the house (4-5th graders) and a special musical number from our youngest students (K-3rd graders). With COVID restrictions still in place the musical will look a little different this year but that hasn’t stopped the students, faculty and volunteers from putting in hundreds of hours to produce a great show. Another alum, Amy (Bartram) Beck (’01), is the musical director for the show.
Pictured is Director Jennifer Kush revealing the musical selection with the OLL community via live stream last fall. Musical reveal parties have become an OLL tradition in the last five years to build community and help cover the licensing costs of the productions.

Another newer tradition is the ghost light constructed by Mr. Tim Pruss also pictured. A ghost light is employed by theaters everywhere as a safety measure – providing light on the stage when all house lights are turned off.
The ghost light also is believed to show respect to the spirits of the past players who performed on that stage. In honor of that spirit, all the musical casts since the light was created, starting with the Lion King, have signed their name on the base of the light.

The theater program at OLL needs continual investment to remain available for future generations of thespians. Currently, the stage lighting is cumbersome and outdated. Most lights weigh 30-40lbs and they are a model of light that is no longer serviced by any theater company. Help OLL keep the lights on with new modern LEDs. Visit the spring musical page to donate.
Annual Auction to Raise Money for Sport Court
This year’s annual auction themed “under the stars” will be held on April 2. This is the largest fundraiser for the school raising crucial funds to support our students, staff and facilities.

Every year a special item is selected to raise funds for a specific need. Last year’s Fund-a-Need raised much-needed funds for a new public address system for better safety in emergency situations and to allow for greater communication both inside and outside our school building. One use of the new system has been for students in leadership groups and on our speech team to practice their public speaking over the loudspeaker at morning announcements and for daily morning prayer.
We are asking the community and alumni this year to get involved in the Fund-a-Need to raise money for a sport court on the lower playground. Help current and future students build their athletic skills and prepare to beat the teachers in the annual student/teacher volleyball game with this all-in-one basketball, pickleball, volleyball and badminton court.
You are also invited to join us in person! Tickets go on sale March 14. Visit the auction website to purchase tickets and donate. We appreciate your support!!
Laker Legacy of Speech Success Continues
This past speech season we had 26 students working on their public speaking skills. Tournaments were virtual this year due to COVID restrictions, but OLL students still practiced and turned out for the tournaments. 22 students participated in 41 speech events at the Bishop Blanchet tournament and 17 members participated in the Seattle Prep Tournament. Overall OLL scored 11 finalists, 2 first places in junior division and 3 students received scholarships for first place finishes. Special shout out to our alumni coaches Jennifer Kush (’94), Teresa (Naylor) Chudecke (‘70) and Lauren (Chudecke) Penning (’97). Over the years, many alumni have given back and coached our team. If you are interested in supporting the program, please contact our Speech Team Director Jennifer Kush.
Alumni Sort Through Decades of Trophies
A group of energetic and mission-driven alumni gathered in April of 2021 to organize all the OLL trophies from bygone years. The alums who answered ‘yes’ to the challenge represented all decades and included Patty Donahue Corum (’64), Craig Davis (’73), Bill Crossland ('76), John Hamel ('81), Jennifer Kush (’94), Katy Corum (‘02) and John Jackman (‘12). The trophies were either boxed by decades, selected for permanent display, or chosen for a unique alumni event to be planned when it is safe to gather a large group of OLL alumni spanning all decades to celebrate. The event will be the first annual OLL Trophy Swap and will include a ceremonial uncovering of the permanent alumni trophy case. Look for more details in the future.

Classic Hot Lunch Memories Through the Decades
Pictured are alumni serving a special hot lunch during the 2019 Catholic Schools week. Due to COVID restrictions, alumni were not able to serve up the hot dogs this year, but the students still enjoyed the tradition on Feb. 3 – the day OLL students celebrated YOU - our alumni! While hotdogs were standard fare for many, other alums will recognize the current Thursday hot lunch rotation of Domino’s Pizza, chicken nuggets, tacos and Dick’s burgers still run by Vickie Kush. A special shout out to our current regular alumni hot lunch volunteers: Kristen (Schuler) Bammler, Joby (Keener) Welch (’86), Stacy (Gallagher) Manchester (’95), Jane (Kemp) Gerritsen (’94).
Celebrating 60 Years of Junior Olympics on June 3
The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win, but to take part…We all remember standing on the asphalt below the school stairs and reciting together the Olympic Oath. On June 3, OLL students will take to the lower playground again to start the 60th Junior Olympics. Save the date and help us celebrate. Alumni are invited to participate in the festivities this year. More details to come as the event gets closer. Contact P.E. Teacher Mrs. Christensen if you wish to volunteer.

Laker Tracks!
Alumni Represented in the Halls of OLL
As students walk down the halls, they pass by all the graduating classes’ pictures. They ask about the students and wonder at their experience. The students’ connection to the alumni community is an invaluable part of the history and future of the school. Thank you for being part of this legacy!
OLL Class of 1962 Missing Graduation Photos
OLL Class of 1962 is on the hunt for their two eighth-grade class photos for inclusion on the school’s "Alumni Wall." With a class of well over 70 students, not to mention siblings who might be the "keepers" of these treasured photos, will YOU be the one to sleuth out the photo(s) to represent your class? If you have any questions or find the photos, please contact Dicki (Donahue) Franklin (‘62).
