Weekly OLL News: January 8, 2020
Dear OLL Families,

We are off to a roaring start of 2020. Our spring musical practices are in full swing, CYO teams are rolling along, our OLL Speech Team is preparing for the Seattle Prep tournament, our new band partnership with Seattle JazzED is inspiring new (and experienced) musicians, we just launched our Salmon in the Schools project by dropping the salmon eggs in the tank today, and much more!

What do these have in common? At first glance, they are prime examples of how much learning and growth happens at OLL even beyond the traditional classroom. Just think of all the lessons and skills learned through these activities.

They also show the strength of the partnership between school and home - not only in parents supporting their children by ferrying them for practices/games/tournaments and more, but also by volunteering to share their expertise and make our school community stronger for our kids.

Next Friday, January 17, is another example. Thanks to our Parents Club and some dedicated volunteers and staff, we are hosting an interactive, hands-on science and technology museum day in our gym called the STEAM Museum (science, technology, engineering, art and math) .

Highlights of various stations include interacting with programmable robots, a demonstration of 3-D printers in action, a “Buzz Wire” activity to learn about basic electrical circuitry, and building a parabolic arch out of foam blocks. All of this will support our curriculum in the classroom and hopefully be a fun and inspiring day for all.

Welcome back to school. We are excited about 2020 and always appreciative of walking with you on the educational journey of your children - inside and outside the classroom.

Art Update
Please send thoughts and prayers for our wonderful art teacher, Mrs. Susan Ozubko, who will be undergoing an eye surgery tomorrow morning, and will be out from school recovering for approximately three weeks. Thankfully, students will still be able to have art class, as she has coordinated lessons with Mrs. Jodie Anderson, who will take her place while she is away. This will allow current projects to continue, and others to get started, including an Egyptian project on hieroglyphics in the middle school.

Parent Club Events Survey
We are looking for parent and staff feedback on the first trimester events. We will do another check in towards the end of the school year. Please take a moment to reflect on the four questions.

Thank you for taking time to  complete this brief survey  on our Parent Club Events. Please complete this survey by this Friday, January 10, 2020 .

Xcare Closed On January 20 for MLK Day

OLL Skate Night
Please join us for a Catholic Schools week community event at Lynnwood Bowl and Skate on January 30 from 6pm - 8pm. See flyer for all the details.

Message About After-School Technology Club from OLL Alum
Hello Our Lady of Lake,
My name is Morgan Killgore and I am a senior at Nathan Hale along with a OLL alumni. For a senior service project for Nathan Hale I am doing an after school club at OLL. The club will be based around technology and preparing middle school students for high school. Topics that will be covered are creating a presentation, figuring out what a trustworthy website is for research, and lots more. If this is something that your child is interested in I would LOVE to have them. I really intend to make this club fun but also prepare your child for high school and improving skills on using school resources that are given to your student. As a high school student, I know that this information can take a student far and I am hoping to help get them there through this club. I am so excited to be doing this at Our Lady of the Lake and I hope see your student there!

Parents : Please contact the main office for more details and to sign up your child for this club.
