Weekly OLL News: November 6, 2019
Dear OLL Families,

During conferences last week, a recurring theme of questions that came up were around technology and specifically how parents can ensure their child’s safety and appropriate use of technology. The tech landscape is changing so fast, although our “digital native” children may not even realize how far it has evolved - or its impact on their social-emotional health.

To help provide you with an expert’s take on this issue, we’re tremendously excited to welcome Tammy Fisher, PhD, to OLL on Nov. 14 at 6:30pm for a parent education talk on “Calm Clarity: Strategies to Support Your Child's Social/Emotional Well-Being in the Screen Age.” You are all warmly invited and we hope you bring your friends. Our first Open House event follows the talk for any families interested in joining the OLL school community. You as parents are always our best “advertisers” for our school - please spread the word and “like” or share social media posts!

In the meantime, you may be interested in these related articles about keeping your child safe online and setting up a Family Media Use Plan from the American Academy of Pediatrics. One quote from the first article suggests that parents “Set up appropriate boundaries for your children and a system for monitoring them.” That vigilance around cell phone use and other technology can help ensure our kids make good choices in this rapidly shifting area that is incredibly important and complex.

Finally, we are very interested in any and all feedback about conferences last week. Please provide feedback via this conference survey .

Thank you for all you do for your child’s education - just two and a half weeks until the end of the first trimester.

Principal
