At our Annual Business and Town Hall Meeting, you'll hear about our goals, finances, membership trends, and how OLLI at Chico State fits into the larger network of OLLIs nationwide.
Most importantly, this is your opportunity to shape the future of our OLLI community. Bring your questions, ideas, and hopes for the future of OLLI. We want to hear from you and get your ideas on how we can continue building a program that keeps lifelong learning engaging and relevant to our community.

| | SPEND A FEW WEEKS WITH BEATLES HISTORY AND MUSIC | | |
The Beatles are the best-selling musical artist of all time. They were – and are – highly influential on pop music and the 1960s counterculture. This fall, you can join LaDawn Haws in a deep dive into the band, their history, and the stories behind their songs in The Beatles, the Whole Beatles, and Nothing but the Beatles.
The class will include a sing-along, starting with "Please Please Me" and working all the way to "Let It Be." Bring instruments if you want to play along – lyrics and chords will be provided – or just bring yourself if you want to sing along to these amazing oldies. You don't have to be a great singer, just someone who likes to sing.
Register for The Beatles, the Whole Beatles, and Nothing but the Beatles when registration opens on August 27 and spend time with this influential group this fall.
| | OLLI GALLERY TEAM SHOWCASES OLLI CREATIVITY | | |
The OLLI Gallery Team showcases OLLI creativity by coordinating the art exhibits that brighten the Bradley 2 classroom throughout the year. With two exhibits annually, the team works behind the scenes to display the talents of our OLLI community.
Some of what the Gallery Team manages includes:
- Developing ideas and themes for each gallery exhibit.
- Working with OLLI artists and instructors to recruit artists interested in displaying their work.
- Coordinating the installation and removal of artwork for each exhibit.
- Helping promote each exhibit and celebrating the artists through opening receptions and other events.
The Gallery Team is looking for new volunteer members to help plan and manage the exhibits displayed throughout the year in Bradley 2. It's a fun, creative way to support OLLI while helping showcase the remarkable artistic talent within our membership.
The Gallery Team is also compiling a list of OLLI artists who would be interested in displaying multiple pieces of their work during interim periods between major exhibits.

| | MEET A MEMBER: JOYCE BOND | | |
When Joyce Bond, pictured, was a little girl, she loved birds and asked her mother for a book to identify them. But it wasn't until she and a boyfriend went on a park ranger-led bird walk in her home state of Pennsylvania that she became an avid birder. Then, her move to California expanded her repertoire. Her introduction to OLLI included assisting now-retired Carl Waters with his long-running bird-watching class, which eased her into the role of class leader.
With Chico on a migration route for many birds, March and April are prime bird-watching months. Now intersession classes offer opportunities to catch the spring migrations of many colorful species.
Joyce enjoys OLLI classes that offer outdoor activities or take you places, like "Arts & Eats" or nature journaling. Recently she explored local history with a class that visited museums. "I never knew the buildings at the Orland fairgrounds were even there!" she remarked.
Currently a freelance book editor, she's happy to reminisce about using her degree in anthropology to participate in an archeological dig in northwestern France. Although scheduled to spend equal time in the UK with a different team, she succumbed to the lure of excellent French catering and managed to wangle her way back across the Channel to rejoin her French colleagues. Coffee, croissants, and outdoor work? What more could she ask for?

As a member, you have the opportunity to not just take classes from OLLI at Chico State, but also selected classes offered by other OLLIs. Five classes shared by OLLI at University of Arizona start this month, and registration is open now. All five classes are recorded, so you can catch up if you miss a class.

The Fall Class Preview is a chance for you to learn about fall classes, plan your schedule, and hear from some of our volunteer instructors. It's also a chance to socialize with other OLLI members and friends. Plus OLLI's volunteer Hospitality Team will provide delicious treats for you to enjoy.
The Fall Class Preview is a great time to introduce a friend to OLLI. Remember, when you refer someone you know to OLLI and they also join, you both get to register early for classes this fall. The deadline to confirm this with the OLLI office is the same day as the Fall Class Preview. Bring your friend with you, and you can let us know there!

My wife, Carla, found it laughable when I first volunteered to be part of the OLLI AV Team. She had good reason to be skeptical. In our house, Carla does virtually everything involved with the smart TV, DVR, DVD player, and streaming. And frankly, I think it scares her when I try to use one of those devices on my own.
That being said, I am now able to be an AV host for OLLI classes on occasion and to even train volunteer instructors on how to use the AV carts in our classrooms. OLLI has a goal of adding at least two new members to the AV Team. I think the perfect slogan for the recruiting campaign would be, "Being an AV host is so easy even Jerry can do it."

The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990. The ADA is a federal law that protects the rights of disabled people through a variety of requirements, including reasonable accommodations in workplaces and accessibility standards for public accommodations.
The sections of the ADA specifically address protections against discrimination in employment, public entities and public transportation, public accommodations and commercial facilities, and telecommunications.
You can learn more about the development and history of the ADA from the Administration for Community Living's history, complete with interviews with people who were involved in its creation and passage.
