Attendees will learn ways to improve mental wellness and combat stress and negative influences. A panel of licensed clinicians from TrueNorth Solutions, an affiliate of Human Service Center, will also discuss insulating and resiliency factors and how to know when it's time to get help. There will be a time for Q & A.
This program is intended for adults but is open to all ages.
Illinois Antislavery and the Struggle for Freedom
Thursday, September 20, 2018 6:00 p.m.
The people of Illinois played prominent roles in antislavery movements preceding the Civil War, but their reasons for doing so varied widely: commitment to human rights, belief in racial equality, economic considerations, and religious convictions, among others. Presenter Jeanne Schultz Angel, executive director of the Nineteenth Century Club and Charitable Association in Oak Park, will discuss how the range of responses to slavery in Illinois was more complex than the state's designation as the "Land of Lincoln" might suggest - and how some of the underlying issues still manifest themselves today.
