Help Us Choose Multi-Day Trips for 2019!

In 2019, we would like to plan two domestic multi-day learning trips, and we need your help deciding where to go!  Based on suggestions from past multi-day trip participants and learning trip evaluations, the volunteers on our Learning Trip Committee have narrowed down the options, and we want to find out where you want to go next!

Click on the link below to access the survey, which should only take a few minutes to complete.

You will be asked to rank the options in order from your top choice to your least favorite on two categories: National Parks and other destinations.  We will build a trip around the top pick in each category.

Thank you for providing your feedback!

J. K. Williams Distilling (Activity Level 2)
Thursday, January 25
11:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
We'll visit J. K. Williams Distilling, a distillery formed to bring craft whiskey- and bourbon-making back to the Peoria area.  During our tour of the facility in East Peoria, we'll learn how J. K. Williams was a man ahead of his time, stubbornly refusing to sacrifice quality when crafting his bootleg whiskey.  We'll also learn (and taste!) how the family recipe is being revived four generations later, using local grain to produce whiskey and bourbon.
$32 - includes lunch, gratuities, tour, tastings, & shuttle transportation

Behind-the-Scenes at Peoria Public Library (Activity Level 1)
Friday, February 9
8:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Main Library, and see how the brand new books, DVDs, and other materials make it from selection to shipping to the shelves.  Visit the "Friendly Finds" bookstore to find out where the sale books come from and how the receive a second life courtesy of the Friends of Peoria Public Library.  You will also have an opportunity for hands-on learning via a choice of library resources available on the Library website.
$25 - includes lunch, gratuities, tour, & shuttle transportation

Caterpillar Visitor's Center Antique Equipment Expo (Activity Level 2)

Lecture on Japanese Culture by
OLLI Study Group Facilitator

Japanese Culture and the Geopolitics of East Asia with Aaron Hoover
Thursday, January 25
7:00 p.m.
Westlake Hall Room 116, Bradley University

The Peoria Area World Affairs Council (PAWAC) will present a lecture, "Japanese Culture and the Geopolitics of East Asia," given by Aaron Hoover.  Aaron is also facilitating an OLLI study group this winter, "Nihon e Yokouso! (Welcome to Japan)."

The Asia Pacific region has become increasingly important in world affairs and it is likely to become increasingly significant for various reasons.  The current political climate in the region appears to be turbulent, but perhaps we can use an alternative perspective to understand current events.  In particular, what is the Japanese perspective?  Aaron Hoover will provide a lecture on the sociocultural themes present in Japan, both historically and currently.  The lecture will be followed by an open discussion about current events in East Asia, with an interpretation utilizing the previously discussed social forces.

Aaron Hoover is a Bradley University alumnus ('14) who majored in international studies and religions studies, and minored in Asian studies.  After graduation, he moved to Japan for work and study.  His previous research experience relates to religion and culture in contemporary Japan, as well as contemporary international relations concerning Japan and China.  He will begin graduate work in East Asian studies next fall.

This lecture is free and open to the public.
