Parking Reminders for Class Participants
OLLI members are reminded to use our free park-and-ride service on Class days.
Parking Locations:
- Westminster Church, 1420 W. Moss Avenue, Peoria
- Shea Stadium, 1523 W. Nebraska Avenue, Peoria
Shuttle Service:
Mornings:
- Shuttle service is available from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. at both parking locations
- Peoria Charter Coach will transport you from Shea Stadium to the Michel Student Center
- OLLI Shuttles will transport you from Westminster Church to the Michel Student Center
Between Classes:
- OLLI shuttles are on duty all day to transport members to and from the Michel Student Center, Westlake Hall, Morgan Hall, the Garrett Center, Shea Stadium, and Westminster Church. To request a ride, call the OLLI cell phone, (309) 258-4142
Afternoons:
- Shuttle service is available from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Michel Student Center
- Peoria Charter Coach will transport participants to Shea Stadium
- OLLI Shuttles will transport participants to Westminster Church
On campus: Parking is not permitted on campus without a permit. If you park on campus and receive a ticket, please note that OLLI is unable to assist in the appeal or payment of your fine(s).
Visitor's Center: The gated Visitor's Center parking lot is reserved for short-term visitors only. Please do NOT park in this lot if you are participating in OLLI Classes.
CampusTown parking: Please do NOT park in any CampusTown parking lots as you may be ticketed and/or towed.

Argo: Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979

Peoria Riverfront Museum Giant Screen Theatre
OLLI presents a special screening of the film
Argo, a drama based on events that took place in 1979 when 52 Americans were taken hostage during the Iranian revolution. Winner of three Academy Awards, the film describes the story of six Americans who attempted to escape the hostage crisis under the guise of producing a Hollywood film.
Following the movie, our moderator, Doug Frank, will discuss his former role as President of Music Operations for Warner Pictures. He will also discuss his supervision of the music for
Argo and many other films, such as the Harry Potter series, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Dark Knight.
$5 - includes admission and discussion. Transportation not provided - meet us at the Peoria Riverfront Museum! Free parking available in the deck accessible from Water Street.

Tribute Speeches by Bradley Students
A couple of months ago, we shared an opportunity for OLLI members to collaborate with Bradley speech students on a legacy writing project. Laura Bruns, a Bradley University Speech Communication Lecturer, paired her students with 24 OLLI members who volunteered to have a tribute speech written about them.
The participating OLLI members and students enjoyed the inter-generational experience of developing and delivering the speeches. Below is an image of the pairs together in the classroom where the students gave their speeches.
At class breaks this Fall, more Bradley communications students will visit the Michel Student Center Ballrooms to chat with OLLI members and practice their conversational skills.

Joan's Trophy & Plaque Company
Thursday, Oct. 20
8:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Joan's Trophy & Plaque Co. originated in the Peoria residence of Don Whitesall in 1970. Now incorporated and employing more than 18 staff, Joan's has grown from a small trophy shop to a multi-faceted corporation retailing awards locally and worldwide. On this trip, we'll get a behind-the-scenes look at the work taking place in the downtown Peoria facility and learn how the company advertises and markets its products.

Studios on Sheridan with Jeremie Draper
Friday, Oct. 21
11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
The former Sunbeam Bakery at Sheridan and Main streets has been transformed into Studios on Sheridan, a 22,000 square-foot haven for local artists to create and display their works in private studios. On this trip, we'll be treated to a private glass blowing demonstration and talk with Jeremie Draper. Afterward we'll take time for a short tour of the facility, learn about the redevelopment process, and then have an opportunity to explore the other businesses located throughout the building.

Proctor Recreation Center
Monday, October 24
8:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Join OLLI for this tour of the historic John C. Proctor Recreation Center, a facility designated by its founder to provide "free baths for the worthy poor of the city." Built in 1913, and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the facility was acquired by the Peoria Park District in 1934. It hosts programs and services to the neighborhood including literacy and GED classes for adults, camps and after-school programs for youth, and is the home of the African American Hall of Fame Museum.

Pekin Hospital
Friday, Nov. 18
8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Since 1913, Pekin Hospital has been dedicated to improving the health of its community through its 107-bed medical center that provides advanced care and state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities. As part of Progressive Health Systems, Pekin Hospital works with highly credentialed nursing staff and healthcare professionals including more than 300 physicians working in over 40 medical specialties. On this tour, we'll learn how the hospital utilizes hospitalists to offer a new level of patient-centered care, and we'll hear about The Baby Place, which holds the international designation as a "baby-friendly birth facility."

Robison Lecture
Robison Lecture featuring Jessica Yellin

As CNN's chief White House correspondent, award-winning political journalist Jessica Yellin has interviewed President Obama, Hillary Clinton, First Lady Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Laura Bush. Yellin provided extensive coverage from the battleground states during the 2008 and 2012 elections and has reported from around the globe, including Russia, China, Latin America, and Mongolia. In Washington, Yellin has covered every significant policy debate of the last 10 years, including the push to reform the financial regulatory system. In 2010, she won a Gracie Award for her reporting on the coverage of women in politics. As a writer, her work has been published in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly, and Details.
This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available on campus after 6:00 p.m.

Co-sponsored by the Department of Political Science, the College of Liberal Arts, and the Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service, "Election 2016: The Evolution of American Politics" will be a moderated discussion of how American politics, particularly within Congress, have evolved. Two former members of Congress with service covering the years 1985 to 2007 will provide eyewitness accounts of how American politics have changed in the last thirty years -- for better and for worse. After the moderated discussion, the audience will be encourage to as the former members questions.

"Peace Through Strength and Diplomacy: Policy Options Past and Present"
Presented by Peoria Area World Affairs Council and Eureka College

Cost: $40.00 for dinner and panel discussion; $15.00 for panel discussion only
Presented by Peoria World Affairs Council and Eureka college, this event will feature dinner and multiple presentations focusing on past and present policy issues regarding Russia, Iran, and the Middle East.
The featured panelists are:
- Ambassador Roman Popadiuk, who served as President Reagan's deputy press secretary in his second term and was the first U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine appointed by President George H. W. Bush.
- Dr. Arya Amirie, who served as a Middle East advisor to President Reagan in his first term and later headed a think tank in Iran. Dr. Amirie, a native of Iran, is a Eureka College graduate.
As the leader of United States foreign policy, Presidents are offered many options to handle international relations and situations. This panel discussion will open with a focus on policy options offered to President Ronald Reagan concerning Russia, the Middle East, and Iran. Panelists will then discuss policy options the next United States President could be offered towards the same countries today. The conversation will explore the intersections of the similarities and differences between policy options of the 1980s and 2016.
The summit begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Becker Auditorium of the Cerf Center with a special presentation from Dr. Amirie on ISIS, using the most current information from his many sources in Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East. This presentation is free to the public.
Tickets for the dinner and evening panel presentation are $35.00 for Peoria Area World Affairs Council members; $40.00 for the general public. Tickets are available only online via the Peoria Area World Affairs Council Website:

Chris Foreman Jazz Trio featuring Andy Brown

Chris Foreman and Andy Brown are legendary Chicago jazz artists. These recording artists tour around the world when they are not performing in Chicago's greatest jazz clubs. Chris was recently featured on NPR's Fresh Air where his new CD with Andy Brown,
Now is the Time (Sirens Records), received great acclaim. Because of generous funding from Bradley University's Intellectual and Cultural Activities Committee, this one-time event is free to the public.

Jazz Ensemble to Present Jazz Tribute Concert
2nd Annual Jazz Tribute Concert: Unforgettable

This tribute concert features Bradley's Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Todd Kelly, with vocalist and Bradley alumna Stephanie Aaron, featuring such beloved songs as Cheek to Cheek, Unforgettable, Almost Like Being in Love, and many others.
Stephanie Aaron has been singing and acting for most of her life, from grade school through college at Bradley, where she received a bachelor's degree in Theatre Performance. Her favorite roles have included Philia in
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Audrey in
Little Shop of Horrors, Viola in
Twelfth Night, and Sally Bowles in
Cabaret. Stephanie began a career as a Peoria radio personality, which lasted for several years and culminated in a stint co-hosting a popular Peoria morning show. She performs in the Peoria Jazz scene with Larry Harms. Moving to Chicago in 2004, she left radio and focused on becoming a working musician: studying jazz, and teaching. Among her favorite Chicago shows are long running residencies at the legendary Jilly's on Rush Street and at The Drake Hotel's Coq D'or. She currently performs with small groups as well as with the DePaul Alumni Big Band at the Jazz Showcase.
Other special guests appearing on stage include Doug Frank, former President of Warner Bros Music Operations, Bradley vocalist Maggie Sloter, and pianist Molly Sloter.
