Learn Something New This Spring at OLLI Classes

There's still time to sign up for OLLI Spring Classes!

Classes will be held on Wednesdays, April 4, 11, 18, and 25, on Bradley's campus.   You can take four different classes, selected from a wide variety of topics and fields of interest, such as these featured classes below!

Class #8, Getting to Know the Peoria County Sheriff's Department (9:00 - 10:00 a.m.)
Learn the inner workings of the Sheriff's department from 4 different visitors.

Class #10, Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond (9:00 - 10:00 a.m.)
Chuck Collins, member of the Ian Fleming Foundation, will talk about the creator of the super spy James Bond.

Class #12, Matters of the Heart -- and More (9:00 - 10:00 a.m.)
Four health care professionals will discuss topics related to cardiovascular health.

Class #19, Literary Lions (10:30 - 11:30 a.m.)
Study a different author each week, including the author of the Wizard of Oz, L. Frank Baum, Annie Dillard, Anne Frank, and Bradley's own Kevin Stein, retired professor and Illinois Poet Laureate.

Class #21, Organize and Downsize! (10:30 - 11:30 a.m.)
Pick up some practical strategies to better organize your home - such as how to combat clutter or manage paper.

Class #32, Live Big Bands and Dixieland (12:30 - 1:30 p.m.)
Enjoy live big band and Dixieland music performed by groups from Bradley and local public high schools.  

Class #33, Look Where I Went (12:30 - 1:30 p.m.)
Share in four presenters' incredible journeys, from Cairo, to Ohio, to the British Virgin Islands, and beyond.

Class #35, Cranbrook: Incubator of Design (2:00 - 3:00 p.m.)
Learn about the significant impact of one school on the world of art, architecture, and design.

Class #42, Look What I Did (2:00 - 3:00 p.m.)
Hear from four presenters about their unique experiences in their fields, including wildlife rehabilitation, nonprofit leadership, pork production, and performance magic.

The class fee of $99 also includes plentiful snacks on class days, complimentary shuttle service from two spacious parking lots near campus, and a seat at the Spring Kickoff Luncheon  on Wednesday, March 14, at 12:00 p.m.

Spend an Afternoon With OLLI on a Local Trip

Creating Collage with Judith Koren-Shanahan- Activity Level 1
Tuesday, April 3, 11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
 On this learning trip, we'll visit the studio of artist Judith Koren-Shananhan, a former commercial artist who continues her art journey by exploring collage, creating mixed media, artist trading cards, and more. We'll have an opportunity to create art as we explore the smallest collage form, artist trading cards. No previous art experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided for you to discover your creative self!
$33 - includes lunch, gratuities, tour, fees, and shuttle transportation

Getz Fire Equipment Company- Activity Level 2
Thursday April 19, 11:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
The Getz family will introduce OLLI to their diversified company and show how they have grown into a multi-million dollar business. Our visit to the 30,000 square-foot building will include a look at the fire extinguisher pressure test rooms, recharge rooms, and training areas as we learn about fire protection and more
$25 - includes lunch, gratuities, tour, and shuttle transportation

Working Together in Congress

Working Together in Congress

Professional Development Center - Room 116 Westlake Hall, Bradley University

Please come hear Congressman Darin LaHood, a Republican representing the 18th District in Illinois, and Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat representing the 8th District in Illinois, speak about bipartisanship and current issues facing the U.S. Congress.  There will be an opportunity to submit questions.

This event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service and The Dirksen Congressional Center.

STEM Day Events on April 14

The Bradley University Center for STEM Education, Peoria Riverfront Museum, and Peoria Astronomical Society will host a variety of events on Saturday, April 14th, for STEM Day!  

Activities include a rocket-building workshop for kids at Bradley, a special planetarium program at the Riverfront Museum, nighttime star-gazing with the Peoria Astronomical Society, and the featured Frontiers in STEM Education Presentation, described below.  Click here to view a full listing of events and locations!

Mr. Bryan Palaszewski from NASA's Stennis Space Center will speak about NASA's past and current plans to send humans to the planet Mars, various possible space propulsion systems that could get us there, what it will be like to live on Mars, potential colonization plans, and more.  This presentation is free and open to the public; contact the Center for STEM Education for more information at (309) 677-3001 or [email protected].

International Trivia Challenge

International Trivia Challenge 
Hosted by Peoria Area World Affairs Council

Itoo Banquet Hall, 4909 W Farmington Road, Peoria 

Join the Peoria Area World Affairs Council for a fun afternoon of trivia, food, and fundraising at the annual International Trivia Challenge on Sunday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m.  This event is full of news, pop culture, and general knowledge from around the world, and teams of eight work together earn bragging rights!

The cost is $20 per person, which includes hors d'oeuvres and snacks.  There will be gift certificates and other prizes in a silent auction, and the cash bar will feature special international drinks for the day!
