Harvard Researcher Invites OLLI Participation in Study

Do you ever find yourself experiencing "senior moments" that concern you?

Harvard University researchers are investigating how memory fluctuates throughout the day and the effects of paying attention to that fluctuation. If you are between the ages of 65 and 80, you may be eligible to participate in this study and do so from the comfort of your own home.  Participation includes 2 phone calls, online surveys, and responding to 2-3 text message prompts for 6 days.

To learn more, email Katherine Bercovitz from the Langer Lab in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University.  You may also call Katherine at (617) 800-9357.

The start date is flexible!  Participants will be reimbursed with a $15 electronic gift card to Amazon.com.

The OLLI Insider

Dear OLLI Insider:

I'm registered for Fall Classes and am very excited about attending for the first time.  Will I receive an official class schedule, or should I bring my registration receipt on the first day?

Welcome to OLLI!  We're delighted to have you as part of our learning community!

Fall 2018 class schedules are provided in several ways.  If you registered between July 24 and September 13, your schedule will be available for pick-up at our Kick-Off Luncheon on Wednesday, September 26.

If you cannot attend the Luncheon, we will mail your schedule on Thursday, September 27.  In addition, on the first day of classes, Wednesday, October 3, you'll also receive a nametag that lists your schedule on the back.

OLLI Insider is a weekly article that addresses questions from our members.  If you have a question about OLLI you'd like featured in an upcoming edition, please email  [email protected].

Emails
Check Your Emails for Study Group Info

Checking emails can be a chore (especially for those who have 97,000+ unread messages, as pictured at left), but our Study Group Chair Gary Nelson wants to remind everyone who is currently in a study group, or plans to take one soon, to check your emails often.

Many of our facilitators send frequent emails concerning discussion questions, readings, and reminders about group meetings.

Thanks for checking - and thanks for participating in OLLI study groups!

Meet Jane Hense, OLLI Vice President

Socializing is an important part of OLLI, and we want to help introduce you to the people who sit next to you on the shuttle or who join you in classes and study groups.

This week, we'd like you to meet OLLI Vice President Jane Hense, who hopes that the growing interest in OLLI is a reflection of our program quality and the welcome we offer.

"I am convinced that OLLI offers an invitation to a richer life," she says.

Bradley Again Ranked Best in Student Engagement

Bradley University remains one of the best institutions in the country for student engagement.  For the third straight year, the university is the top-ranked Illinois school and among the top 15 in the annual Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings released earlier this month.

"Our vision is to be the leader in student engagement, and having an outside source recognize Bradley in this area validates the hard work and effort we put into that vision," said Walter Zakahi, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.  "Our students receive real-world experience and participate in experiential learning. They collaborate across curricula with faculty and staff - all to create an exceptional learning opportunity that is at the heart of the Bradley Experience."

OLLI commends Bradley University for this well-deserved recognition!
