This Fall Term
OLLI is Back, Blended, Better
BACK: Northwestern OLLI will be back on campus this fall.
Given the vastly improved local health landscape and the significant progress we have made in planning a return to campus, I am pleased to announce that OLLI will return to in-person experiences this fall. I couldn’t be more excited to meet all of you in person, and to see this warm, wonderful, and vibrant community come together on campus again!

BLENDED: Enjoy both on campus and virtual experiences.
Because we have discovered so many unexpected benefits of virtual learning during this last year, we will continue to offer some virtual experiences in addition to our in-person experiences.

BETTER: Coming back better than ever.
  • OLLI is not just returning to our pre-pandemic program; we’re coming back new and improved! In addition to the outstanding peer-led learning, programming, and community you previously enjoyed, OLLI will be better than ever by offering more choice, convenience, and community.

OLLI Anywhere 4-Week Summer Session Begins This Week!
Study Groups start Tuesday, July 6
The following information will help you prepare for a successful start to your summer OLLI experience.

Canvas is the way to access your virtual classroom. Log in well in advance of your study group so you have time to get assistance if you have difficulty.

  • Log in using your NetID and NetID password. This may be different from what you use to log into the OLLI online registration system.
  • Usernames and passwords are case-sensitive; make sure your caps lock is not on.
  • Re-type your password each time you log in, as your computer may pre-fill with an incorrect password.

Submit a ticket to the OLLI Help Desk OR email, but please DO NOT do both, as this causes confusion and extra processing.

*Please DO NOT contact Northwestern's IT department. They are not familiar with our program or membership. In addition, you will likely receive longer wait times as they are supporting all Northwestern students.

Canvas (Northwestern’s Learning Management Platform) and Augusoft (OLLI’s Online Registration System) are the two systems you will use as an OLLI member.

Click Here for a document that outlines the two systems in more detail and gives you a place to record your usernames and passwords so you remember them.

Your Role in OLLI’s Peer-Led Experience
Northwestern OLLI is one of only a few lifelong learning programs across the country that is based on a peer-led model, meaning we actively learn with and from one another in seminar-style discussion groups versus a more passive instructor led experience. In our peer-led model, each of you brings your diverse experiences, backgrounds, careers, talents, and perspectives to the discussion. The result is deeper learning, greater community, richer conversation, and a truly unique and meaningful experience!
Your role in the peer-led experience:
  • Prepare: Carefully and purposefully read assigned material and discussion questions in advance. Consider ideas, arguments, or views presented in the selection. Highlight, make notes, and identify questions you want to explore.
  • Participate: Enter the conversation, sharing your ideas succinctly and with focus. Listen actively and respectfully to the ideas and opinions of others.
  • Volunteer to be a Discussion Leader: Discussion leaders are needed every week for the peer-led experience to be a success. Coordinators look to study group members to play this important, fun, and rewarding role. Whenever possible, volunteer to be a discussion leader, alone or with a partner.
Thank you for bringing yourself to this truly unique peer-led learning experience.
Notification of Passing

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of OLLI member Suzanne Dupré. Suzanne had been an OLLI member since 2004 and valued member of the Study Group Committee. She recently engaged in Money, Marriage, and Motivation: George Eliot’s Middlemarch, and These Truths: A History of the United States study groups. Suzanne will be greatly missed by her family and all of her friends at OLLI. For more information - Click Here.
Northwestern Main Library is Open
Library stacks are now open, and OLLI members can access the Main Library building in Evanston. Opening the stacks means that the Hathi Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS), which provided digital access to about 80% of our print books, has ceased since the physical books are available once again.

Schaffner Library on the Chicago campus remains closed through summer.

Entering Main Library: We recommend that you bring your Wildcard to save time when checking in at the Welcome Desk. If you do not have a Wildcard you will need to show a photo ID, such as your driver's license, state Identification card, or passport.

Those who are not fully vaccinated need to bring a mask and wear it while in the Library. The University is no longer requiring patrons to show their Symptom Tracker status. Reservations are not required to enter the library. The Circulation Desk will be open to check out books and accept returns but most of the other service desks will be closed for summer.

Building Hours menu is at top of library homepage screen or call for info at (847) 491-7658.
Main Library Hours for the summer, beginning June 21: Monday to Thursday 8:00am to 8:00pm; Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm; Saturday 10:00am to 6:00pm; Sunday 12:00pm to 8:00pm.
July 4 Holiday: NU Libraries will be completely closed beginning Thursday, July 1, through Monday, July 5. We will reopen on Tuesday, July 6 at 8:00am.

Until further notice, NU library staff will continue to ship books to patrons who are not able to come to the library in person.
