OLLI’s Annual Donation Campaign Nets Over $6,000

OLLI at Sierra members contributed over $6000 during our Pre-Thanksgiving fundraising campaign. “This is much greater than we ever expected, and the OLLI Advisory Council is exceedingly grateful,” said Council Chair Terry McAteer. “Those who are able and willing to make a tax-deductible donation are still encouraged to do so before the end of the year,” stressed McAteer.

The money raised will fund scholarships for OLLI members who wish to take our classes but are fiscally unable. It will also fund improvements to the OLLI classrooms. We plan to purchase a state-of-the-art projection system that will enable instructors to teach hybrid classes with both in-person and Zoom attendees actively involved. “Zoom classes are here to stay and this technology at the Roseville campus will marry the best of both worlds: in-person and Zoom,” said McAteer.

OLLI members who still wish to donate to the annual campaign are invited to send a check to: Sierra College Foundation, 5100 Sierra College Blvd., Rocklin, CA 95677. Please designate that the donation is for OLLI at Sierra. All donated funds will go directly to your OLLI program.

Spring 2022 Online Catalog Available January 10th
The online 2022 Spring Catalog of OLLI classes will be available Monday, January 10th. Classes begin on January 26th. OLLI at Sierra Program is tip-toeing out of the pandemic by offering both Zoom and in-person classes.

All classes, in-person and Zoom, will have individual enrollment fees assigned to them. To meet OLLI’s budgetary needs, we’re returning to a fee schedule similar to the pre-pandemic fees. “We are probably the most reasonably-priced OLLI in the country, but we still have a bottom line to meet which necessitates the per class fee,” said OLLI Program Manager Shari Smith.

  • Over 60 Zoom courses, a many interesting new subjects and a handful of popular reruns. For example, Susan Rogers will bring her genealogy courses. Retired Sacramento Bee Publisher Cheryl Dell will discuss “Bias in the Media and in You.” Kenneth Moore, will discuss biblical history, while Catherine Bramkamp offers an array of humanities classes. Finally, the ever-popular Travel Tuesday reappears with new destinations ranging from the North Pole to the South Pole.

  • Over 30 in-person classes, a few in each of our three locations in Roseville, Lincoln, and Nevada County. (*Note: Each class must meet a minimum enrollment, so please sign up early if you wish to attend in-person classes.) Music Instructor David Anderson returns to teach five classes focusing on different time periods and genres of music. Linda Derosier is back with her popular film classes, and Ellen Sander is offering courses ranging from Japanese Internment to Mark Twain. Mike Theodore will teach a film and art series focusing on “Controversial Artists.” Alex Yarmolyuk will tackle the contemporary issues facing the Ukraine. Some of OLLI’s fitness classes will also return to in-person.

  • A variety of field trips, from historic Sacramento and Sonoma to a rail trip to Reno and Virginia City. A few Spring hikes round out the field trip offerings. Highly popular, these fill quickly.
