OLLI Spring 2023 courses begin next week on Monday, February 6th with new classes starting throughout the semester and through May. Courses will be a mixture of in-person (at location), online (Zoom), and field trips. We have something for everyone! February 24 – Are We Out of a Drought? Let's Talk Water with NID Director Ricki Heck! Is the Drought Over? What Does Water Storage Look Like for this Year? What are Water Agencies Doing to Deal with a Changing Climate? NID serves treated and agricultural water to Nevada County, North Auburn, and the Lincoln area of Placer County. Ricki will discuss the severity of the drought and what steps water districts like Nevada Irrigation District (NID) are doing to conserve water. You will have the chance to ask questions about this very important issue that affects us all.

April 14 – Tips for Planting Your Summer Vegetable and Flower Garden with Master Gardener Molly Breen Molly is a retired middle school science teacher who in retirement has pursued her passion in flower and vegetable gardening through becoming a University of California Master Gardener. She will answer your gardening questions and provide you insights as to how to grow gorgeous tomatoes and bouquets of flowers.

May 5 – A Conversation with Sac Bee's Pulitzer Prize Winning Cartoonist Jack Ohman Senior Associate Editor Jack Ohman has been at The Bee since 2013. Winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning, he also won the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, Scripps Howard Award, national SPJ Award and National Headliner Award. A Portland State grad, Jack also writes editorials and columns. Ohman will discuss the art of political cartooning and some of his favorite tales.

Sierra Writers Conference 2023
Free for OLLI Members!
The 2023 Sierra Writers Conference celebrates the 20th anniversary of Sierra College Press and Standing Guard, its landmark book of stories about Japanese internment during WWII. This year’s conference draws on the talent of a diverse group of speakers to expound and provide instruction on stories of social justice, environmental concerns, and the craft of writing.

The conference is free to OLLI students and staff and $65 for community members. Tickets are available at the Sierra Writers Conference website at:
