OLLI to Host July 21st Food Drive for Homeless/Food Insecure Sierra College Students

Nineteen percent of students attending California’s community college system have experienced homelessness in the last year, while 60 percent have experienced recent housing insecurity and 50 percent have struggled with food insecurity, according to a 2020 report. Sierra College students are no exception to these findings says Dr. Linda Williams, Director of Sierra’s Financial Aid Department.
 
The OLLI at Sierra College Advisory Council is, therefore, doing our part to help alleviate this growing problem for our fellow Sierra College students. OLLI members are encouraged to help fill the Sierra College Food Pantry at the Rocklin and Grass Valley campuses which gives scores of local homeless and food insecure youth a weekly box of food. You can assist in three ways:
 
Drive up, Drop off
On Wednesday, July 21st from 10:00 to 1:00 pm drive-up, drop-off food collection will occur at the two campuses. OLLI Advisory Council members Linda Derosier and Gretchen Cypin will be at the Rocklin campus in the A-1 parking lot, next to LR - Library/Learning Resource Center (the four-story building). Terry McAteer will man the collection at the Grass Valley campus on top of the campus hill in front of the Administrative Offices. View Grass Valley Campus Map Click Here. Stop by and provide a bag of food/supplies. (Needed are: nut/fruit bars, tuna, cups— pudding, ramen, mac/cheese, soup; pasta, pasta sauce, small— soaps, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant; women’s sanitary pads/tampons)
 
Send a Check
You are also encouraged to send a check to help Sierra College supplement food purchases. Send your check payable to: Sierra College Foundation ℅ Food Pantry 316 Vernon St., Roseville, CA 95678. Dollars are needed to provide weekly perishable goods!!
 
Amazon Food Account
Another easy way to give is to purchase food directly from the Sierra College’s Food Pantry account at Amazon. Click on the following link to access that account: Amazon Sierra College Student Food Pantry

Summer 2021 Term Dates: June 21st - July 30th

Tuition is only $50 per person for as many classes as you'd like!
  • You must register for individual classes (at no extra cost) to ensure your spot in class, receive your class Zoom links, and be emailed any other pertinent class information or handouts.
  • Current OLLI Annual Membership is required for Term purchase (or you must have it in your shopping cart on our registration website).
  • Term price does not include OLLI Outdoor Events (Hikes, etc.); those are extra. You can register for these under the OLLI Extras dark blue column (with picture of forest/trees).

Recently, over 80 OLLI at Sierra College members attended OLLI Night at the Lincoln Potter’s Minor League Baseball Team.
 
The Potter’s, in a slugfest, defeated the Solano Mudcats by a score 12-2!

Pictured on the right is OLLI member, Ginger Freer, and Potter Mascot Peacock Potter. They made a great team, rooting on the Potter sluggers.

OLLI Membership Renewal
OLLI Membership 2021-2022

Look for your OLLI Membership Renewal form in the mail this week. Your membership is only $20 for August 1, 2021 – July 31, 2022. OLLI Membership is required in order to register for our upcoming Fall Term. You may renew by mail or on our website. To renew (or purchase for the first time) your Membership 2021-2022 online, follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 1
Login to your account on OLLI's Registration Website at www.sierracollege.edu/olli (click the blue hyperlink to open webpage).

Step 2
On the homepage, click on the red Become a Member button or scroll down to the green ABOUT OLLI category (photo of our Roseville Vernon Street campus) and click on the first tab entitled, Become a Member.

Step 3
On the Become a Member webpage, click the red Add to Cart button nestled under the listing, Membership 2021-2022 / Membership Renewal.

Step 4
On the Shopping Cart webpage, click the red Check Out button in the bottom right hand corner.

Step 5
On the Check Out: My Information webpage, confirm your information is correct and click Next.

Step 6
On the Check Out: Payment Method webpage, click Next.

Step 7
On the Check Out: Billing Information webpage, verify your billing information and click Next.

Step 8
On the Check Out: Purchase webpage, verify that your order, billing address, and payment information are correct. Click Purchase to submit your order.

Step 9
Lastly, input your credit or debit card information and click Pay Now to finalize your order. You will receive an automated confirmation email to the email address associated with your account thereafter. 
 
Fall 2021 Semester begins September 13, 2021. An email announcing registration opening date and time will be sent in August. We will have Zoom and some on-ground classes this fall!
