A big thank you to all OLLI members who opened their wallets and pantries in July to help stock the shelves on both Sierra College campuses! Your help really made a difference! While both campuses need our support, the Grass Valley's campus shelves were extremely low according to Linda Williams. Thanks to your donations, we helped restock them! Linda Williams, who is the Director for the Financial Aid Office at the college, is often revered as the “emotional heart” of the Food Pantry, for her devoted commitment to this amazing cause.
With the huge success of the July event, the OLLI Advisory Council has pledged to continue to partner with the Food Pantry staff on an ongoing basis.
Food insecurity is a common issue among college students. Linda Williams describes a student who is a Veteran, whose wife has many health problems. In order to pay for his wife's much needed health insurance, this student works while continuing his education. Struggling to feed themselves on a limited budget, the Food Pantry is an invaluable resource for this Sierra College family.
We in the OLLI community can help this family and scores of other Sierra College students by continuing to donate to the Pantry in one of two ways:
