Zoom broadcast at 10:00am WMU OLLI - Unveiling American Genius with KIA
November 10, 2021--OLLI at Western Michigan University Presents: Unveiling American Genius w/the KIA
OLLI at Western Michigan University provides a reimagining of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts permanent collection. The collection entitled “Unveiling American Genius,” illuminates the ingenuity that springs from all corners of American society. Honoring KIA’s ongoing commitment to an ever more diverse and more inclusive representation of American artists in its holdings, it features key stories that women, African Americans, Latinx, and other artists have told about our culture, our art, and our history. The presentation shows abstract and contemporary works as well as traditional genres of painting such as landscapes, still life, and portraits. The KIA opened in 1924 as a nonprofit organization and now owns nearly 5,000 fine artworks. It includes 10 galleries, the Kirk Newman Art School, and the KIA Gallery Shop.

The Zoom meeting begins at 10:00 am

Please RSVP for the Monthly Meeting by Friday, November 5

Have you Renewed Your OLLI Membership
Don't wait! If you have not already renewed your membership, do so today. The cost of the yearly membership is $60 until December 31, 2021.
A Note form OLLI Advisory Board Chair Roger Spann
Several weeks ago I received a 30-day Challenge: Random Acts of Kindness. I still haven't made it through all 30 yet, but I am making progress one a day, or one a week, well, you get the idea. Here are a few of the ideas I have already made it past, and then read on to see what I did to connect it to OLLI.
   1. Leave an extra big tip.
   2. Pay for the next person in line.
   3. Feed someone's parking meter.
   4. Commend a store employee.
   5. Call someone who lives alone.
   6. Send a surprise gift.
   7. Donate to a food pantry.
   8. Give a friend a list of their best qualities.
9+  At this point I started to think of things I could do to make our SVSU-OLLI an even better organization. Here are just a few ideas. What can you add on your own? Email me your ideas and maybe they will appear in a future issue..
1. Today, check to make sure you have renewed or joined OLLI for the 2021-2022 year.

2. Contact one person that might not have renewed just because they forgot and remind them of the importance of renewing ASAP.
   3. Make sure you have registered for the November 10 monthly meeting.
   4. Call a friend and invite them to the monthly meeting and offer to go out to lunch with them afterwards.
   5. Call the OLLI office and thank the person that answers for doing so much for our membership.
   6. Look over the November and December classes, day trips, and local adventures to see if there is still something you would like to do with your OLLI friends.
   7. Call an OLLI friend just to say HI and that you have missed them during these past couple of years.
   8. Start thinking of making a year end donation to OLLI. It's been a tough two years and any amount will go a long ways to ensure the future of this wonderful organization.
9+ You got the idea? Don't stop here. Come up with your own. And if you are so inclined, let me know your ideas and perhaps I will share them with others.

Welcome to our new staff members. Let's all get behind the OLLI staff and support them as they work to build OLLI for the future.
