We are launching this OLLI at DU Adventures e-news blast so that you can stay up to date on all our latest offerings. Look for us every Friday! This brand-new information source is exactly where “in the know” happens!

And to that point, we are really excited to announce a brand new reciprocal membership agreement with OLLI at CSU in Fort Collins. For just $10 per term you can join their program, and OLLI at DU will see a lot more potential members as well. A win, win!

Not only will you find announcements for a whole slate of new member benefits, but we will also provide information on how to participate in learning opportunities and events. Some will happen so you can plan well ahead and get some things scheduled on your calendar, but we will also notify you of last-minute offerings for you to join on the spur of the moment*.

We would like your suggestions along the way as we grow this into something you will look forward to in your Friday email. While our new Website is still under development, we promise it will be better, clearer and easier to navigate (but at the moment it has some missing pieces). Without further ado, here are some things to get excited about!

* A spur is a spiked attachment worn on a rider's boot that is used to urge a horse into action. In the early 1500s, the phrase on the spur meant in great haste. This expression evolved into today's idiom, on the spur of the moment, first used around 1800 to mean to do something without forethought, to act impulsively.

Black American West Museum &

Heritage Center Tour at 10 am on 9/7/23

Come on a personalized tour for OLLI at DU members of the Black American West Museum in Denver. The mission of the Museum & Heritage Center is to promote an understanding of the important role that African Americans played in the settlement and growth of the western United States through its collections, programs, and exhibits.

The Museum is housed in the former home of Dr. Justina L. Ford, first licensed African American female physician in the state of Colorado. While famous for telling the story of the Black cowboys, the museum tells the stories of those early African Americans who came west and performed as miners, soldiers, homesteaders, ranchers, blacksmiths, schoolteachers, lawmen, and every other profession needed to build up and develop the West.

Special Event Webinar in Partnership with a

Live Newman Center Event

The Martha Graham Dance Company has been a world leader in the evolving art form of modern dance since its founding in 1926. And now they are coming to the Robert and Judy Newman Performing Arts Center on the DU Campus.

In a special partnership with OLLI at DU, we are offering our members a $10 discount for the September 22 performance. We are also excited to announce that Betsy Schwarm will be presenting a free OLLI at DU webinar on Monday, September 18 from 10 am-11:30 am to all members who have purchased an annual membership. Since the membership purchases will not be available until mid-August, please mark these dates on your calendar. Even if you cannot attend the Newman Center event, you won’t want to miss this free webinar. For registration information for the performance and webinar, stay tuned.

MARTHA GRAHAM (1894–1991) is recognized as a primal artistic force of the 20th century, alongside Picasso, James Joyce, Stravinsky, and Frank Lloyd Wright. In 1998, TIME magazine named Martha Graham “Dancer of the Century,” and People magazine named her among the female “Icons of the Century.” As a choreographer, she was as prolific as she was complex. She created 181 ballets and a dance technique that has been compared to ballet in its scope and magnitude. Her approach to dance and theater revolutionized the art form and her innovative physical vocabulary has irrevocably influenced dance worldwide.

Get ready to travel!
