Dear Taliah,

The OLLI at SOU office has some great news to share: SOU's one credit (auditing) program has been expanded and streamlined to make it much more accessible to OLLI members.

  • All OLLI at SOU courses now qualify for the SOU one credit program, which means...
  • All Fall term students who meet the age (65+) and residency (Oregon) requirement are now eligible to "dual enroll" as both an OLLI student and an SOU student.

For those who are not already familiar with SOU's one credit program, here's how it works:

Near the beginning of each academic term, OLLI at SOU members who are a registered student in at least one OLLI at SOU course, and age 65 or older, and have resided in Oregon for at least one year, are encouraged to fill out an SOU one credit registration form. (The age and residency qualifications are required by the State of Oregon.) The simple, online form takes just a minute or two to fill out. After OLLI office staff process the form and enter the data into SOU's student database, the qualified student becomes dual enrolled for the duration of the current term as both an OLLI student and an auditing SOU student. There are no additional fees and no transcript credit is awarded.

Best of all, SOU receives approximately $100 in State of Oregon funding for every OLLI course a one credit student is enrolled in. If most OLLI students who qualify opt to participate in the one credit program, this could really add up to be a significant financial boost for SOU during these especially challenging times.

On behalf of the SOU staff, faculty, and students who will benefit from your participation, thank you in advance for your support.

Another benefit of taking a minute or two to sign up as a one credit student is free access to the SOU Hannon Library for the duration of the Fall term. The Hannon Library is widely regarded as one of the best college libraries in Oregon. Once the academic term begins, no special I.D. or library card is required for one credit students to check out materials; a driver's license or state-issued photo I.D. card will suffice.

(If you don't qualify for the one credit program, or want year-round library access, click here to learn more about how you can have full library access for only $35 a year.)
