Leadership Asheville Forum (LAF)
November 20th Critical Issues Luncheon
Meet Buncombe County's
New Manager
Food service begins
at 11:45 a.m.
Program begins at 12:15 p.m.
The Country Club of Asheville
170 Windsor Road
She'll be just eight months into one of the most high-profile jobs in Buncombe County. And at LAF's November 20th Critical Issues luncheon event, Avril Pinder will tell us what it's like to take over as Buncombe County manager in the wake of the Wanda Greene scandal. After a six-month nationwide search, she was chosen by a unanimous vote of the county commissioners from a list of 40 candidates.
Ms. Pinder has plenty of job experience, having been deputy manager of New Hanover County before coming to Asheville. She's also aware of the special situation which confronts her. As she put it in a recent interview, "After everything that has happened recently, I am committed to regaining the public's trust..."
We hope you can join us.

The Autumn Players
The Last Night of Ballyhoo
by Alfred Uhry, Directed by Wendy Strauss
Sunday, November 24, 2:30 p.m.
UNC Asheville's Reuter Center
Manheimer Room
Join us for this performance of the Tony Award for Best Play by the author of Driving Miss Daisy. Nazis have just started rounding up Jews in Europe, while the elitist German Jews in 1939 Atlanta are busily focused on the social event of the season, affording marriageable daughters a golden opportunity to find proper husbands for themselves. When a decent young man of Eastern European background enters the picture, romantic plans get humorously tangled up, and personal beliefs are put to the test.

Meditation Special I
nterest Group (SIG)
Monday, November 25, 1 - 3 p.m.
UNC Asheville's Reuter Center,
Room 120
Presenter will be Bill Walz who will focus on waking up to our true selves. All OLLI members are welcome at our gatherings.
Awakening
Buddhism and Buddhist meditation is about waking up into who we are, what is real and possible, and how to live in a deeper and clearer manner psychologically, spiritually and socially. While Buddhism is considered a religion, I approach Buddhist teaching and meditation as fundamentally a profound transpersonal psychology that includes a powerfully effective system of ethical teachings necessary to living a balanced and stable life. The meditation practice has the capacity to clear away old chaotic and ineffective patterns of deeply ingrained behavior, thought, and emotion, while opening us into profound levels of insight into our true nature, place and purpose within the greater scope of Life.
Bill Walz has evolved from a career as a clinical psychologist into teaching meditation and evolving consciousness as a path to personal healing and growth. He has taught meditation and consciousness at UNC Asheville, in public forums and with a private clientele, and has taught at OLLI for over ten years. He also writes a monthly consciousness column in Asheville's
Rapid River Magazine.

"Handle with Care"
Friday, December 6, 1:30 p.m.
UNC Asheville's Reuter Center Manheimer Room

Go behind the scenes of professional theatre with NC Stage Artistic Director and co-founder Charlie Flynn-McIver. Explore the themes of this season's plays, talk with the actors, directors and designers about design concepts and the rehearsal process, and experience a scene or two performed live. Join us for an insider's view of how theatre happens!
