2024-2025 Calendar

Attendance at OLMC

At the start of the new year, and the halfway mark of the academic year, we wanted to take a moment to remind families of the school’s expectations regarding absences and most importantly the value of students being present, and in-person, for the full experience that Our Lady of Mount Carmel has to offer. We want each of our students to flourish in mind, body, and soul and to share with others the gifts that God has given them.

As you may have noticed, we have been including a few posts in the Messages recently regarding absenteeism and tardies. We are hoping that together, school and family, we can increase students’ presence at school.

In accordance with the Indiana Department of Education, we expect that every student attends school at the rate of 94% or higher. This means that students should not miss more than a maximum of 10 total school days for the 180-school year. In addition, the Department of Education considers a student to be “chronically absent” if they miss at least 15 days of school in a year. This includes both excused and unexcused absences.

Consistent in-person learning is the absolute best scenario for children. The Pandemic proved this to be true, as continued evidence of learning loss is made manifest in low test scores across the Nation, as well as with students struggling to adjust emotionally and socially.

As noted above, both excused and unexcused absences matter, since they equally result in lost instruction and the many other formative moments of the school day. So, we are encouraging parents to take time to consider whether or not to keep a child home or to take them out for appointments during the school day.

If your child has accumulated quite a few absences at this halfway mark of the school year, please feel free to reach out to Tim Fletcher or Sister Peter Marie to discuss a possible plan moving forward. The school is always happy to work with parents to increase students’ presence at school. We want to see them here!

Report Cards and Honor Roll

Report Cards: Second Quarter report cards will be sent home today for Grades K-6. 7th & 8th grade will receive report cards via email only. The emails are password protected. The password is your child's student ID with can be found by logging into your PowerSchool Parent Account.

Honor Roll for Grades 6-8: As you may know, we have had some technical difficulties with the honor roll report over the recent past. Hopefully, these issues have been corrected. The Family Policy Guide states that core classes count two times and specials classes count one time. Click here for a breakdown of how PowerSchool calculates this.
