This week, we are celebrating Disability Awareness Week.

The Saint of the week is St. Margaret of Castello.

Each grade level will have guest speakers and classroom activities throughout the week.

Make sure to ask your children what they are learning about!

Here are a few pictures from this week so far.

Anna Schneider, a Junior at Guerin Catholic High School spoke about Spina Bifida.

Tommy Hartley, a senior at John Paul the Great Catholic University spoke about Autism.

Matthew Mitchel spoke about being deaf, reading lips and being paralyzed from the waist down.

Out of Uniform Day - tomorrow, March 23

In support of the Guerin Catholic Boys Basketball team playing in the IHSAA State Championship game this Saturday, we are having a Purple and Gold Out of Uniform day tomorrow!

Even though we know that not all of our students will attend Guerin after graduation, we want to join in supporting our diocesan high school.

Out of Uniform Days - Children may wear loose fitting jeans, athletic p ants, khakis or other clean, casual type slacks with appropriate tops. (In this case purple and/or gold if you have it - if not, wear Raider gear/Blue & Gold to show your support for OLMC at our Pep Rally at 2:15 in the gym). For full details about Out of Uniform attire - please see the Family Policy Guide page 50.

Band members may wear their band t-shirt.

The game is March 25, 2023 at 6pm vs. Northwood at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Find details here.

OLMC Pep Rally 2:15 - 3pm in the Gym

The day before Fall & Spring breaks we have a pep rally in the gym

to celebrate our school community.

Band members should wear their band t-shirt for the pep rally.

If you plan to pick your children up early from school tomorrow,

March 23, please do so before 2pm.

The school office appreciates your cooperation as the gym gets quite noisy and

trying to locate children for dismissal during the pep rally can be tricky.

Parents are welcome to attend but must enter the school through the front door

and sign in at the office.

Plan to pick your children in carpool - you are not allowed to take them

directly from the Pep Rally.

It's Time For Spring Cleaning!

This week, our school has been celebrating disABILITY Awareness Week with many fun activities, interesting speakers, and thoughtful discussions. Please keep these discussions going at home by asking your kids what they have learned about the dignity of ALL human life this week. A tremendous thank you to Caroline Dury, Karen Semler, and Kelly Maynard for all the work they put into making this week so great!

Reusable water bottles

Did you know that reusable water bottles can carry more bacteria than a toilet seat?

A recent study found that “Reusable water bottles hold 40,000 times more bacteria than do toilet seats. After swabbing several different reusable water bottles (and different parts of the bottles), researchers found two types of bacteria present — gram-negative rods and bacillus. Gram-negative rods are commonly associated with hospital-acquired infections and are increasingly becoming resistant to antibiotics, the study noted.”.

Good news is that if you clean your water bottle daily, you can significantly reduce the amount of bacteria. The best way to ensure that a water bottle is getting a good cleaning is to clean by using dish soap and warm water. So be sure to bring a clean water bottle to school each day!

March is National Sleep Awareness Month

Another good way to stay healthy is to get good sleep. The month of March is National Sleep Awareness Month. Getting enough sleep is critical for each person, regardless of age, but this is especially true for students in order to facilitate their health, well-being, and ability to learn.

Recommended Sleep requirements by age are:

  • Children: Preschoolers (3-5 years) 10 to 13 hours
  • School-age kids (6-13 years) 9 to 11 hours
  • Teenagers: (14-17 years) 8 to 10 hours
  •
