Click here for the Nov-Jan Parent lunch duty calendar.

Thank you to the many parents that have already served their assigned lunch duty this school year.

Please remember that on Monday, Wednesday and Friday when we have catered lunches, it is very important to be here at 10:45am. Your assistance in counting and sorting food items really makes a difference! The last lunch ends at 12:45. Once the tables are cleaned and collapsed

you are free to leave.

As a tithing parish that does not charge tuition, our lunch program relies on parent volunteers each day. The number of volunteer spots needed in the cafeteria throughout the year exceeds the number of students enrolled in the school. Therefore, it is necessary for families to serve lunch duty for a minimum of three days. This is the only required commitment of service we ask of our parents each year. If parents are not able to serve on their assigned dates, it is the parents’ responsibility to switch dates with another protocoled adult. A protocoled adult is a person who has successfully completed the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana’s Safe and Sacred training and whose background check

through this protocol system has been cleared.

Carpool Safety:

Please only use the approved carpool lanes for afternoon pickup. The aftercare buses are the only vehicles that should be parking in the north parking lot (corner of 146th & Oak Ridge). Parents should not be parking in the north lot and walking to the back of school to find their children. Doing this confuses new families about the proper carpool procedures.

Book Fair & Open House Event:

The school book fair will be open for students to shop with their homeroom during the school day Sep 27-29. Watch for information about when your child’s homeroom will shop soon. Click the link below to sign up to help.

The book fair will also be open for sales Thursday night, Sep 29 from 6-8pm

  • The classrooms are open for parents/family to visit with their children.
  • This is an opportunity for your child to take family on an informal tour of their classroom.
  • Teachers will not be in the rooms.
  • The book fair will be open for shopping.

The Parish Food Truck Festival will also be that evening from 5:30-9pm. So come for dinner, visit the school and buy some books from the book fair!

Picture Retake Day-Oct 6:

Picture Re-take day is scheduled for next Thursday, October 6.

Proofs from picture day are expected later this week. We plan to get them sent home as soon as they are received. If they are not received soon, re-take day will be re-scheduled. Watch your email for more information about this.

On picture re-take day, students wear their school uniform. If they are having their picture re-taken, they should bring the pictures or proof with them to give to the photographer. Re-takes will be taken during the morning, with the exception of Afternoon Kindergarten. We also recommend you make sure your child and their teacher knows you want them to have a re-take. Teachers are not able to check email after 7:30am.

8th Grade Class Trip Meeting:

DC Trip: Parent Informational Meeting: Thursday, Oct. 6th: 6:30 pm: School Parish Hall

All 8th Grade parents (at least 1 per family) should plan to attend this meeting to hear about the trip details, potential cost, and fundraising. (At this point a make-up date for the car wash is uncertain.)

Poinsettia Sale Coordinators Needed:

Dear 8th grade parents:

The class trip to DC will be exciting this spring. We are looking for parents to chair the 8th grade poinsettia fundraiser. (This could be an individual or a team!)

Much of the planning of this fundraiser is done on your time, so it is a perfect opportunity for moms or dads, working or stay at home parents. Those serving in this role may also be able to further reduce the cost of the trip for their child or themselves as a chaperone (in addition to the fundraising from the sales)In the past, this fundraiser has raised around $12,000 total towards the trip; if no one comes forward to head the effort, it might not happen.

We need to start planning, so please contact Stephanie Zorger by email at jslzorger@gmail.com or call/text 773-844-7884.  Tina Fletcher has all the information and is happy to sit down with the chair/s of this fundraiser and walk you through the details.

Jeans & Flannel Day for Mr. Logan:

Friday, Oct 7

Mr. John Logan, one of our maintenance men, is retiring. His last day is Friday, October 7. In order to celebrate as a school, we are having an out of uniform day to wear jeans & flannel shirts! This out of uniform day is for the whole school, grades K-8.

Mr. Logan graduated from OLMC School in 1970. He began volunteering for the parish in 1975 as an electrician and handy man. Mr. Logan started officially working for the parish in 2014. He loves classic muscle cars and his favorite saint is St. Joseph the worker.

Fall is finally here and what a gorgeous start to the season we have had!

Thank you to Jill Reitz and Betsy Hoffman for another AMAZING Movie Night last week! The kids thoroughly enjoyed the pizza, candy, and time with their friends. Many hands make light work and all the volunteers were certainly appreciated that evening!

Fall Book Fair will take place the 27th-29th. Click on the Sign-Up below to see what volunteer times are available. This is such a fun way to do a little shopping with your kiddo😊

6th Grade Parents, the 6th Grade Social is October 7th immediately following school. Please see the Sign-Up below for volunteer opportunities.

School Lost and Found:

Happy last official day of summer!  With colder temps looming in the near future, now is a great time to make sure all of your child(ren)’s PE bags, lunchboxes, sweatshirts, coats, hats, mittens, etc are labelled! We tend to see a large increase in lost & found during colder temps. Especially in the fall when it is chilly in the morning but warms up for recess/dismissal time.

The school lost & found table is located in the Parish Hall/Cafeteria. Items like jewelry & electronics are kept in the office. Parents are welcome to come check lost & found during the day.

There is also a gym lost and found in the area outside the gym doors for items

left in the gym or locker rooms.

Items left on the Lost & Found table for 4 weeks get donated to the Merciful H.E.L.P. Center. We do check for names before we donate.

School Safety Drills:

Each month the school practices a safety drill (fire, tornado, or A.L.I.C.E.).

The A.L.I.C.E. drill is designed to teach children what to do in the event of an aggressive intruder in the school. During the next few weeks, Mr. Fletcher and Sr. Peter Marie will be talking to each of the classrooms about the school's A.L.I.C.E. procedures.

Safety is always an important part of our culture here at OLMC, and we sincerely thank you for your continued support of our safety procedures and drills. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Tim Fletcher- fletchert@olmc1.org

Blessing of the Animals - THIS SUNDAY, October 2 at 4 p.m.

It has been the tradition at OLMC to have a Blessing of the Animals on or near the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. This blessing is in honor of his love of all creatures. This special rite lasts about 20 minutes and bestows God’s blessing upon each of the animals present.

See this week's bulletin and Observer for more details!
