A Christ-centered community,
provides excellence in education
to meet the needs of the whole child.
December 9-10, 2020
Dear OLMC Parents,

Good afternoon!  This week has been quite a busy one for all of us here at OLMC School.  Amidst the busyness, however, it is truly a joy to share with you that the saving message of the Gospel has still remained at the heart of our week.  On Tuesday, all of the students at OLMC School were able to participate safely in the Mass for the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.  Every student from K-8th grade was able to actively participate in the liturgy as the Mass was live-streamed into the classrooms.  The students were able to receive the Holy Eucharist during Mass with the help of teachers who serve as Eucharistic Ministers.  I heard a number of staff testimonials who shared how moved they were to see the children remain so reverent during the Mass and during the reception of Holy Communion.  Then on Wednesday, the students were able to go to confession and cleanse their soul in preparation for the solemnity of Christmas.  Sacramental graces were certainly abounding for our students this week, and for this, I am entirely grateful.

As many of you know, last week the CDC released a few new guidelines regarding quarantine measures for close contacts who are asymptomatic.  After thoroughly reviewing all of this new information, OLMC School has decided to follow the preference of the CDC and the Indiana Department of Health and will thus maintain our 14 day quarantine period for close contacts.  We remain committed to providing in-person learning for our children in the safest way possible, and following our previous policy of a 14 day quarantine will help us to achieve this noble task.  I have attached some helpful resources released recently from the Indiana Department of Health for you to read, if you are interested.  I hope these updates will help everyone to better understand Covid-19 in general and the precautions that we are taking as we discern the time when individual students can return to school.

Lastly, today we are releasing the first draft of our 2021-22 academic calendar.  As always, these calendar dates are subject to change.  I know many of you are eager to know the dates of the first/last days of school as well as the school vacation dates so you can plan ahead.  Hopefully, travel in 2021 will be safer and a more “vacation-friendly” year overall. 2021-22 OLMC School Calendar

I pray that as we approach the 3rd Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, we will experience a true spirit of rejoicing-- the coming of the Christ-Child is near. Come, Lord Jesus!

In His love,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

Outside Recess:
Students in grades K-6 go outside for recess daily. Students are expected to be dressed appropriately for the weather. If there is little to no precipitation and the temperature is 15 degrees or higher (including the wind chill), the students will go outside for recess. Any temperature/wind chill below 15 degrees will result in indoor recess.

Please make sure you label all coats, hats, gloves, scarves, etc. The commonly end up in the lost and found. If we find a name, we get it to your family. If it is not labeled, unclaimed items are donated to the Merciful HELP Center.
Mask Reminders:
  • Please make sure your child(ren) remember to wear a mask to school daily.
  • Masks should be washed frequently.
  • A spare mask should be in your child's backpack in case the need arises during the day for a new one (sneezes, breakage, etc)
  • The school office does a supply of masks if a child needs a new one during the day but we have been seeing an increase in the number of students arriving to school without a mask or a backup.

Since last week, we have had 1 report of a positive cases.
