A Christ-centered community,
provides excellence in education
to meet the needs of the whole child.
January 6, 2021
Dear OLMC Parents,

What a blessing it has been, once again, to see the children in school after break.  I hope your Christmas break was a restful and joy-filled time for your family.  I recognize that many people were more than ready to put 2020 behind them and welcomed 2021 with a spirit of eagerness and joy.  As a new year is ushered in, new year’s resolutions routinely follow.  My observations have been that these resolutions can take many different forms, but most of them seem to involve breaking bad habits.  Just this week, I was thinking about making a different kind of new year’s resolution that involves taking time away from the daily stressors of life and devoting more time to God.  I recently came across an advertisement for inexpensive, day-long retreats that are offered by our diocese.   St. Joseph Retreat Center in Tipton has been a popular place of retreat for our diocesan principals for the last few years, and now they are offering day-long retreats as well as overnight retreats for any interested persons throughout the year.  If you are not familiar with the retreat center, it has been recently renovated, the grounds outside are beautiful, and I can truly attest that the overall environment is quiet, prayerful, and peaceful.  Fr. David Huemmer, a faithful priest who served at Our Lady a few years ago, leads the majority of these retreats.  So, if you want to start off this new year by reviving your spiritual life and treating yourself with a day away from your normal busy routine, I encourage you to check out the variety of retreats that this retreat center offers.  The basic “Get Away for a Day” retreats for men and women run from 9-3 pm and just cost $20.  You can learn more about these opportunities to grow spiritually here.  New Year’s Resolutions are great, but I am not aware of many resolutions that can fill your heart with His peace like a day spent away with the Lord who loves you.

As we conclude the Christmas season this Sunday with the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, may we continue to give thanks for the gift of in-person learning and for the good health with which He has blessed us.  Let us “give thanks to the Lord for His mercy endures forever” (Ps 136:24).

Blessings on your new year,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

If for some reason you cannot work your assigned day, it is your responsibility to find someone to take your place. Your help in assisting our cafeteria program is very important as our volunteers help us keep a safe and clean eating environment.

COVID-19 Updates:
Congratulations on helping us reach the end of 1st semester of in-person learning. It truly is a partnership between the families and the school staff. Working together to follow our policies has greatly contributed to keeping our school doors open for your children.

With school being closed for the holiday, we have zero reports of new positive Covid-19 school cases. You are always welcome to check our school numbers on the Indiana Covid-19 Dashboard and Map. Click on the school tab. OLMC School updates our numbers each week.

Other important COVID-19 resources may be found on the Indiana Department of Health website.
