A Christ-centered community,
provides excellence in education
to meet the needs of the whole child.
March 31, 2021
+We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.+

Dear OLMC Parents,

In this holiest week of the year, we look forward to entering more deeply into the suffering, death, and resurrection of Our Lord. Your children will not be receiving written homework to complete over Easter break so that they can fully attend to the solemn events leading up to our redemption. We will be dismissing school at 1:05 pm tomorrow so our families can get a head start on their Triduum planning.  OLMC parish is offering a number of richly liturgical events from Holy Thursday evening through Easter Sunday. The schedule for these services is listed further below in the Messages. I hope you and your children can participate in these liturgies (in-person or virtually) which focus our minds and hearts on the extent of Christ’s self-emptying love for us, a love that drove Him to death on a cross.

Last week, Governor Holcomb announced that he will relax the mask mandate in Indiana and initiate a mask advisory beginning on April 6. However, the mask mandate will still remain in effect in K-12 schools and state office buildings. Teachers and students will continue to wear a mask for the remainder of this school year, so please remember to pack an extra mask for your children to keep in their backpacks. Thank you!

May your Holy Week, Triduum, and Easter celebrations be entirely blessed!

In His extravagant love,

Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

Getting to Know Our New Teachers:
Typically, our school newspaper elective crew, The Raider Reporter, would have interviewed our new staff during 1st quarter. Since we have not been able to return to having this elective, a few students have volunteered to do mini-interviews for us.

Getting to Know Sr. Cecilia:
Sister Cecilia was interviewed by Tessa Schwartz and Isabella Smock. Sister Cecilia's favorite part of teaching at OLMC is being able to walk with the students and learn from them. She also loves the faith-filled families, and how they are bringing their kids up in faith. Her own teachers inspired her to be a teacher. She is from Akron, Ohio. Her favorite grade to teach is 2nd grade because she gets to help the kids prepare for the sacraments. She has been a teacher for two years.

Math & Science Homework Help!
The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has a free helpline for math & science subjects.

AskRose provides quick, one-on-one, east-to-understand tutoring to help students solve math and science homework the way it's being taught in schools today.

Sunday - Thursday 7PM - 10PM
Call: 877-ASK-ROSE (877-275-7673)
Chat or email: askrose.org

Testimonial from Mrs. Seaman: "My children have used this resource many times. We were skeptical at first that anyone would be able to help with math over the phone. The phones are staffed by Rose-Hulman students. They have access to most textbooks online and are trained to ask questions to determine which method the child is learning in their specific class. We have not used the new website with chat/email options but would highly recommend calling before you pull all of your hair out!"
Lost & Found:
Last Chance! Unclaimed items will be taken to the Merciful H.E.L.P. Center Friday, April 2.

In addition to the items in the pictures below, there are many uniform sweatshirts.

ILEARN (grades 3-8) April 19- May 14
ILEARN is the State of Indiana’s standardized assessment that measures student achievement and growth according to Indiana Academic Standards for grades 3 – 8. The assessments will be the weeks of April 19 – May 14.  Your child’s teacher will let you know the days/dates your child will be testing. Attendance during these days is very important. Please make every attempt to schedule doctor and dentist appointments around the test dates.
Here are just a few tips for a good testing day:
  • Make sure students get a good night’s sleep. This is important every night!!!!
  • A good morning at home makes for a good morning at school.
  • Make sure your children eat a good healthy breakfast.
  • Talk to your children about the test. Remind them to give their best effort. This test is important, but too much stress can be a problem also.
  • Encourage your child to listen to the teacher for directions.
  • Encourage your child to think positively – they can do this!!!!
  • Smile and tell a funny joke – laughing is good for everyone.
