Dear OLMC Families,

Congratulations on finishing yet another school year at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School!  Needless to say, this year has certainly not been like any other year in the history of the school.  We have several successes to celebrate at this time as a community, and there are victories that would never have been accomplished without the faithful partnership of students, parents, staff, and the administration.  No one could ever have imagined in years past the abundance of measures that we needed to take in order to enjoy the privilege of maintaining in-person learning in the classroom.  The masks, extra cleaning, distancing, and quarantining were certainly novel to us as educators and families, and yet we have overcome these challenges in solidarity with each other, completely dependent and trusting in the grace of God.  In this last week of school, I thank you for your patience, support, and perseverance throughout this difficult year.  This is a year we will certainly never forget, and I hope that this is a year we will never have to repeat.  With God’s help, we did it!

Lastly, I want to thank you for all of your support of me as a teacher and as an administrator for the last nine years.  My time in Carmel has passed so quickly, and I feel truly honored to have been part of this faith-filled community for so many years.  On a personal level, I will certainly miss you all but promise to keep you in my prayers.  As OLMC School moves forward to next year, I can assure you that you will be abundantly blessed under the leadership of Mr. Fletcher and Sister Peter Marie.  They are both committed to the mission of the school because they are wholly committed to Christ.  The Holy Spirit will surely work in and through them in these coming years, and I look forward to hearing how Our Lady of Mount Carmel School students grow to become the holy and happy young men and women God has created them to be.  God’s blessings to you now and always!

With much gratitude and prayers,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

Getting to Know Our New Teachers:
Typically, our school newspaper elective crew, The Raider Reporter, would have interviewed our new staff during 1st quarter. Since we have not been able to return to having this elective, a few students have volunteered to do mini-interviews for us.

Getting to Know Mrs. Jane Ann Gaskill:
Mrs. Gaskill, the new librarian, is very happy to be here. Her favorite part about being a teacher is, getting to know the students and sharing a love of reading. Mrs. Gaskill loves our community and says “We are very blessed with our community”. She wanted to be a teacher to share her love of books with others. Mrs. Gaskill used to work as a counselor in California before she came to Indiana. Her favorite grade to teach is kindergarten. This is her first year working in an elementary school.
