A Christ-centered community,
provides excellence in education
to meet the needs of the whole child.
May 5, 2021
Dear OLMC Families,

How incredible it is to think that we have now entered the month of May and are well into the 4th quarter. ILEARN testing continues to proceed this week, and thankfully, we only have a few more days to go. The students and teachers have been heroic in persevering not only through this standardized testing period, but throughout the entire school year. In this year dedicated to the theological virtue of hope, we have “trusted in God’s loving plan for us,” and He has rewarded our trust by blessing us with all of the graces we have needed to keep our school open and in-person for the last nine months. Two thousand years ago, St. Paul preached truth to the Christian community in Rome, “And hope does not disappoint” (Rm 5:5). His exhortation has certainly proven true during this challenging time. We have not been disappointed in relying on the providence of God. Our Lord has been faithful to His promise to be with us each moment as we moved forward in faith and hope during this school year.

The teachers have been working hard recently to build class lists for next year. If you have any serious concerns about your child’s placement for the 2021-22 academic year, please email them to me by the end of the day on Friday, May 7. I cannot switch students out of classrooms and into different classes once the school year is over in May. In doing so, I may unwittingly switch out another student who may not receive his/her best placement for the next year. I appreciate your continued support and understanding!

In this month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, I pray that our hearts will grow in gratitude for all of the ways she has protected us and has interceded for us before the throne of God. OLMC School will be honoring Our Lady by hosting our annual May crowning after the 8 am Mass on Friday, May 7. Thanks to our parish staff, this crowning will be live-streamed. The 8th grade will be the main participants in this event, and the 2nd graders will come dressed in their First Communion outfits. What a beautiful day it will be!

Blessings on your week!

In Her tender love,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

End of Year Gifts:
Contributions are due today!
Dear All OLMC School Families,
The school year is coming to a close next month. Our teachers and school staff have worked hard this year, especially in this Covid environment. The PTO is collecting gift money for teachers and staff as a small token of our gratitude for all they have done. The gifts will be pooled together and each teacher and staff member will get their individual gift in SCRIP cards.

This year, you can donate in one of two ways:
  • Give online to the Teacher/Staff Gift Fund:
  • Send in a check to the school in an envelope marked “PTO Teacher Year-End Contribution.” Please make all checks out to OLMC PTO with “Year-End Contribution” in the memo line.

For ease in ordering with SCRIP, we are kindly asking that you give your donation in $5 increments (Ex. $5, $10, $20, etc). We are also asking that you make your online or check donations by Wednesday May 5th. Your room parents will work with the PTO to make sure the teachers and staff receive the SCRIP cards they desire.

Your year-end shopping is done easy peasy for your Teachers.☺
Thank you for your generous contribution!

Sincerely,
OLMC PTO Board

STATE TESTING THIS WEEK:
ILEARN (grades 3-8) April 19- May 14
ILEARN is the State of Indiana’s standardized assessment that measures student achievement and growth according to Indiana Academic Standards for grades 3 – 8. The assessments will be the weeks of April 19 – May 14.  Your child’s teacher will let you know the days/dates your child will be testing. Attendance during these days is very important. Please make every attempt to schedule doctor and dentist appointments around the test dates.
Here are just a few tips for a good testing day:
  • Make sure students get a good night’s sleep. This is important every night!!!!
  • A good morning at home makes for a good morning at school.
  • Make sure your children eat a good healthy breakfast.
  • Talk to your children about the test. Remind them to give their best effort. This test is important, but too much stress can be a problem also.
  • Encourage your child to listen to the teacher for directions.
  • Encourage your child to think positively – they can do this!!!!
  • Smile and tell a funny joke – laughing is good for everyone.
