Dear OLMC Parents,

Happy feast day of Saints Simon and Jude!  Today is a special day for us as Catholics because we are celebrating the lives of two apostles, one of whom is the patron saint of impossible cases.  So, if you have any intentions that you are holding in your hearts that seem somewhat impossible, today is the day to offer them up through the intercession of St. Jude.  We are continually consoled by the truth that “Nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

At the end of the day, the students will be bringing home their Quarter 1 report cards.  These report cards mean so much more to us than they have in past years.  Our K-8 students have not only successfully mastered academic skills through hard work and study, but they have shown resilience and maturity in persevering through uncertain times in this pandemic.  I am so proud of them!

Our entire school will be having an out-of-uniform day on Friday, October 30.  Students in K-2 can come to school wearing costumes, and 3rd-8th grades can have a Spirit Day and dress in fall colors (yellow, red, orange).  These students can wear jeans, khakis, or athletic pants that are modest and dignified.  Please make sure your children’s clothing does not have holes in them, especially the jeans.  Costumes for children in the primary grades must be life-affirming and focus more on light than on darkness.  No witches, vampires, or anything to do with blood, fear, or violence will be permitted.  As a Catholic school, we want to reflect the true meaning of Halloween-- All Hallow’s Eve-- as the Church recognizes it.  Our celebration of All Hallow’s Eve will be authentic and consistent with the Catholic tradition as we remember the holy ones, the “hallowed” ones.  These saints in heaven were ordinary people just like us who are now enjoying the brightness of God’s glory, bathed in His love.

OLMC’s most true celebration of All Hallow’s Eve will actually take place on Friday at 8 am Mass.  The 4th grade will be dressing up as saints and processing down the aisle at the beginning of Mass.  I am grateful to Mr. Rund for arranging for us to have a votive Mass for saints so the 4th grade could continue their long-standing tradition.  Thanks to Mr. Rund, the saints will “go marching in” once again.

Through the intercession of all of the saints, may the light of Christ shine brilliantly in our hearts.

In Christ, the light of the world,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

We are blessed to be able to say that we continue to remain at zero positive cases.

The continued health and safety of our school is dependent on the cooperation of all families. If in doubt, please keep your children home and call the school office. We are working closely with the Hamilton County Health Department to make decisions on a case by case basis.

When notifying the school office that your child will be absent, we will need specific information as to why they are not at school. Please indicate if they are ill or not ill. If ill, please let us know specific symptoms to prevent the need for follow up communications.

The CDC is encouraging people to obtain flu shots this year. Click here for more information.

Poinsettia Sale:
The 8th graders will be holding their annual Poinsettia fundraiser beginning today, Oct. 28.

All proceeds will go toward their class trip in the spring. The goal is for them to travel to Washington, D.C. If that cannot happen due to the pandemic, the goal is for an alternate trip to be planned.

All orders are due by Nov. 6th, so it is going to be a quick sell this year.

The options are the same as in previous years, 8 inch plants in red or white for $16 per plant and/or 10 inch plants in Red for $25 each.

If you don't know an 8th grader, but would like to place an order, please contact Tina Fletcher, OLMC Poinsettia Coordinator at olmcsports@olmc1.org and put poinsettias in the subject line.

Thanksgiving Basket Donations Needed!
We have an urgent need for donations for the Thanksgiving Basket Program. This year marks our 45th year for the program. We are committed to provide food to over 500 underprivileged families in our area. Unfortunately we are way off pace for donations - only 20% of turkey tags were distributed over the last two weeks after masses, and online donation signups are very slow. We desperately need your help. Turkey tags will be available after mass next weekend on tables in the narthex. Please stop by and pick up a tag.

You can also sign up to DONATE FOOD via a new signup genius at
There is a link to Instacart where you can get $10 off any order of $35 or more for our program, and they will deliver your donation directly to the Merciful Help Center. How easy is that!!

To sign up to HELP with food packing and delivery day:

Thank you in advance for your generosity!
Parent/Teacher Conferences:

5-8 Parents: It is possible that you may not have a conference. If your child's teacher feels the need to have a conference with you, they will be contacting you soon to schedule one.

Parents are always welcome, any time of year, to email their child's teacher with any questions or concerns. Click here for our staff directory. Teacher names and emails are also listed in DirectorySpot .

If you have any questions about this day, please email your child's homeroom teacher.
Book Reviewers Needed!
We received a donation of books from Carmel Public Library but need help in reviewing the upper elementary books to ensure they are aligned with our Catholic values. If you are interested in helping to review a book (or two), please e-mail Jane Ann Gaskill at gaskillj@olmc1.org. You will be given a book to review and a google form to complete after you have read the book. Thank you!

Our spotlight this week is on
