October 7, 2020
Dear OLMC Parents,

Happy feast of Our Lady of the Rosary!  Here are some timely school updates:

New Administrative Assistant: I am pleased to announce that Danielle Gunsett has been hired as our Tuesday/Thursday administrative assistant.  We warmly welcome her to the Raider family!

Planned e-Learning Day: Wednesday, October 21.
  • This planned e-Learning Day before Fall Break will run differently than the e-Learning days we had during the mandated quarantine last year from March - May.
  • Every grade-level will be using Google Classroom and not Edmodo.
  • The assignments will be posted the day before on Tuesday, October 20 at 3:30 pm.
  • The assigned work is due when the students return from Fall Break on Monday, October 26.
  • There will be an attendance question posted on Google Classroom that students will have to answer.  Students must mark themselves present by 3pm on October 21.
  • The teachers will only be available for help on Wednesday, October 21 from 9 - 11 am and again from 1 - 3 pm.  Outside of those hours, students and parents will not be able to access the teachers.  Please plan accordingly.
  • Please communicate with your teachers if you encounter any technology problems during the e-Learning Day.

Carpool Safety: Please remind your children that if they walk to school, they must cross over to the school via the playground crosswalk that is supervised by a teacher.  No students should be using any other path or shortcut to get to school in the morning because our traffic monitor at the playground crosswalk cannot supervise multiple crossing areas.  The mornings are only going to get darker, and it is not safe for children to walk in front of incoming cars.  Children are welcome to use other paths after school when it is light out and safer to do so. Also, please do not drop off your children around the bend by the Merciful Help Center.  Please wait to drop them off until you arrive at a safer location, one that is marked by a cone.  Thank you!

Blessings on your week!

In Our Lady, Queen of the Holy Rosary,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

**please keep in mind that the effects of the pandemic shifts rapidly which make planning for certain events challenging. All dates and times are subject to change. We will communicate details as soon as possible.

As of today, we remain at zero positive cases.

P.E. Uniforms: During second quarter, we will continue to have the students in grades 4-8 just change their shoes for P.E. class. They will not use the locker room to change into P.E. clothes.

Reminders From The Administration:
We have seen an increase in tardies recently. The exterior doors lock at 7:45 a.m. when the tardy bell rings. Please remember that your child should be in their classroom when the 7:45 tardy bell rings, not just in the school building. Consider getting up or leaving the house 5 or 10 minutes earlier each morning.

October 1 was the date that:
  • Boys may no longer wear shorts
  • Girls may wear navy uniform pants instead of the skirt/jumper
  • Girls may no longer wear the plaid split skirt/skort

Girls may wear white, navy blue or black leggings under thier jumper/skirt for warmth.

With the change in seasons, now is a good time to please take a moment and check the fit of your child(ren's) uniforms. Pants/skirt length, sweatshirt too small, etc?
It is amazing how fast they grow!

Lost & Found:
Label, label, label!
We have a multitude of sweatshirts accumulating in the lost & found. We do check for nametags and return labelled items to their rightful owners. Please label your child's vests, sweatshirts, coats, hats, etc.
Raider Pride!
Girl Scout Troop 179 has been renovating the path between the Village of Mt. Carmel and OLMC for their Silver Award, and the project is finally complete. Cici VanDyke, Bridget Green, Gretchen Greener, and Francesca Zawadzki were all involved in the project. Check out the before and after below. The path will be much nicer for the students that use it every day. It had become overgrown, with roots, etc. that were tripping hazards. Solar lights were added for times in winter months when it gets dark early.
