September 23, 2020
Dear OLMC Families,

Good afternoon!  As we are making our way through the second half of 1st quarter, I am starting to feel that we are transitioning from “survival” mode to” thriving” mode.  Our students are still battling allergy and cold symptoms, but I am delighted to announce that we still have zero reported cases of COVID-19.  There are so many more reasons to be grateful: We have not yet had one day in which rain has kept the children from enjoying quality instructional time and recreational time outside.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a long stretch of sunny weather from 11 am to 1 pm.  God is so good!  Also, the Sisters and I are humbled by the generosity of our parish families who donated so many items for us during the Pantry Shower.  I especially enjoy relishing the surprise on the Sisters’ faces when they see the incredible quantity of goods that were donated by our OLMC community.  The Sisters who are new to OLMC are particularly amazed and comment that they have never seen anything else like this before.  I am so proud to announce to them each year that this is just one expression of the immense generosity of our parents at Our Lady; you are all such a gift to us, and I am so grateful to you!

The school Masses at the main Church are going very well.   We are still taking precautions and spreading out the students, so they are only going to daily Mass once per week.  Jesus is so pleased to see the faces of His beloved little ones before Him each Mass, and I want to take this opportunity now to thank those faithful mothers who stay after Mass to clean the pews the students occupied.  I consider these women to be “the holy women of Jerusalem,” after the women who faithfully followed Christ in His journeys and cared for His needs.  These women are allowing our school children to come to the Lord in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and fulfilling His command to “Let the children come to me” (Mt 19:14).  A heartfelt thank you to all of the parents who are serving our Lord in this capacity.  The Lord will certainly reward you.

On a more practical note, this Friday (9/25) OLMC School will be having a planned late start.  This 2-hour delay will give our teachers extra time to engage in some personal professional development.  They have been working so hard, as you can imagine, and will continue to enhance and develop their gifts and talents in the classroom for the education and formation of our students.  The doors to the school will open at 9:15 am for morning drop-off; students will need to be in the classroom by 9:45 am.  I hope your children will be able to get some extra sleep on Friday and enjoy the weekend break that follows.

Blessings on the rest of your week!
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

Cell Phones & Other Electronic Devices (including smart watches!):
A student in possession of a cell phone or other electronic device must ensure that it is put away and turned off between 7:15a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (This time includes carpool). As new technology emerges, please remember that if the device can make a phone call, access the internet, or send/receive texts, or take pictures/video it cannot be in the child’s possession during the school day. If needed, the school office phone is available during these times. If a cell phone or other electronic device is used, seen, or heard during school hours, it will be confiscated, and the student will be assessed a $25.00 fee. It will then be released to a parent or legal guardian.
Absences/Tardies: Please let the office know by 9am when your child will be absent or late and the reason why. We follow the guidelines established by the Indiana State Department of Health. In order to properly determine when a child can return to school, we need detailed information regarding symptoms. A generic email of "under the weather" or "not well" will prompt a follow up phone call or email. The most recent Reference Guide can be found here:

Appointments: It is also helpful to let them know when you will be picking the up for appointments throughout the day.
