Dear OLMC Parents,

We have been so blessed to be able to resume our in-person learning experience for more than a month. Over the summer, we worked hard on our reopening plan to ensure that the students could return to school in a safe environment. Our plan was to spread the children out as much as we could both inside and outside of the classroom.

We are writing to you today because we really need your partnership in fulfilling our lunch duty needs. As you know, we opened up the gym as a second “lunch room” so students could spread out more while they eat their lunch. While having two lunch locations has solved the issue of social distancing, it has created an increased necessity for every parent lunch volunteer to be present. Without all four parent volunteers, it becomes extremely difficult to provide the safest and cleanest eating environment for our students. Serving lunch duty is the only parent service opportunity that the school requires parents to do, and this year we reduced the number of parents needed in the lunchroom from 6 to 4 adults. The reality is, however, that we hardly ever have the 4 scheduled parents show up to help. The average number of parents present for lunch duty over the past two weeks has been 2-3.

When this happens, the office has to close temporarily and teachers do not receive their full lunch time because they need to fulfill the duty of a parent who did not show up for lunch duty. We really cannot sustain our lunch set-up if this trend continues. The simplest solution is that all the assigned parent volunteers either attend on their assigned day or find a substitute parent who is up-to-date on their Safe and Sacred protocol training to fulfill their duty. We are hopeful that with this reminder letter and by following the steps below, this important issue will be resolved. 

We are asking all parents to follow these steps:

 Take a moment to look at your assigned lunch duty dates and add them to your personal calendar.
Review the lunch duty video
If you are unable to serve on your assigned day
Find a day that you can serve
Email or call the parents that are scheduled to serve on that day and request a switch
Email or call the school office to report the switch  
 If you are unable to find a parent to switch
Email or call the office at least 24 hours in advance

Lastly, if you are feeling called to be an emergency lunch duty volunteer, please email Mrs. Van Woerkom (vanwoerkomj@olmc1.org).

  • Dec 18 will be a 2 hour early dismissal at 1:05pm.

**please keep in mind that the effects of the pandemic shifts rapidly which make planning for certain events challenging. All dates and times are subject to change. We will communicate details as soon as possible.

Save the Date: Our next dining event will be in 2 weeks at Piada Italian Street Food (1380 S Rangeline Rd) in Carmel on Tuesday, October 13.
Outside Recess:
Each grade in K-8 does go outside for recess/breaks each day. Please make sure your child(ren) are dressed appropriately for the weather. Make it a family routine to check the weather to decide if sweatshirt, coats, hats, etc are necessary.

Lost & Found:
Changes in the weather also brings an increase in items in our Lost & Found. Right now we have many, many sweatshirts and a few vests that were left outside last week after recess. It helps everyone when you put your last name in your child's clothing.
Trash Bag Sales - Extended One Week:
Money & Order forms due to school office by Oct 7.
It’s fall y’all!!!! It's that time of year to support our Sports ministry and pick up leaves and dead branches. Our annual trash bag sale is here. Starts today through next Wednesday! 

Paper forms will be going home with your youngest child today ... so make sure to check their folders. Click here to print one. Fill out the form and submit with a check (made out to OLMC Sports) either send in with your child in an envelope (trash bags) or feel free to drop off at the front office!

If you ordered pictures, they went home last week. If you ordered and did not receive pictures, please contact Inter-State Studios through their website at: https://inter-state.com/Support

If you did not order pictures, your proof was sent home last week. If you did receive a proof, you can still order online using the following steps:

  1. Go to https://inter-state.com/order
  2. Click on "Find my Child's code"
  3. Enter your email, school year, state, city and school name
  4. The system will send you a new email with your child's proof.

Class composites are not available at this time. Inter-State Studio hopes to be able to make these available in the spring.

Picture re-take day will be October 15. We will call each classroom during the morning to dismiss children that are having their pictures re-taken. Please make sure your child & their teacher know that you wish for them to have a re-take.

If you ordered pictures already, please have your child bring those pictures with them on Oct 15 to give to the photographer. If you have not yet ordered pictures, you child just needs to visit the photographer when we call their classroom.

Attention parents of boys in 4th-8th Grade:
One final CYO Boys Basketball Evaluation is being held this Friday, Oct. 2nd from 5pm-6pm in the OLMC School Gym. 
Anyone who has not yet evaluated should plan to attend this Friday.  

If your son(s) are not yet registered, but would still like to play, please register at www.orgsonline.com by 5pm on Friday, Oct. 2nd. This will be the last opportunity for guaranteed placement on a team. After this, a spot cannot be guaranteed and a $25 late fee will apply.

SHADOW SHOWCASE

Formally our traditional Golden Eagle Shadow Day Experience
8th graders—we wish we could offer our traditional shadow day experience with us, but we are excited to offer another option for you at this time. Spend a morning with us at Guerin Catholic! In our newly-remodeled student lounge, you will meet and hear from several administrators and Admissions representatives. Learn interesting facts and trivia about student life in the Nest! We’ll take you on an outdoor tour of our courtyard and grotto, then continue with an indoor tour of observing teacher and student interactions in the classrooms. A visit to the gym, cafeteria and chapel is also included. You will have the chance to meet with a GC student 1:1 during our Kairos time. And lunch is on us! Parents of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to attend a Prospective Parent Breakfast from 8:15-9:30 am on Thursday, October 8, to visit and learn about Guerin Catholic. You will meet our Admissions staff and learn about the admissions process, hear from members of our administration staff and from a current student, and tour our school’s 72 acre campus. It’s a great way to see first hand what Guerin Catholic is all about and have all of your questions answered. This event will take place outside on our beautiful Athletic Plaza near the football field. Please park in the South East parking lot nearest the football field, and enter through the Athletic Facility Gate. A light breakfast and refreshments will be served. Registration is required and space is limited. Register at GuerinCatholic.org.

Tuesday Tours
Parents of 7th and 8th graders are invited to spend a morning getting to know Guerin Catholic. Our Admissions staff will answer your questions while leading building tours and observing classrooms interactions. Tours begin at 8am and last approximately 1 hour. Your student is invited to attend as well! Registration is required and space is limited. Register at GuerinCatholic.org.
