School Access During Drills

Once per quarter the school will conduct a fire, tornado and lockdown drill. These can take 3-5 minutes. During these drills parents will not have access to the school building. If you arrive to sign out your student for an appointment or to sign them in, you will need to wait until the drill has been completed before being admitted. Thank you for your understanding. 

SCHOOL NEWS & REMINDERS

**All volunteers are required you complete Virtus Training VIRTUS® Online (virtusonline.org and the *NEW* https://protectmokids.com/. Both are available online and when completed certificates need to be emailed to or dropped off at the school office. These are both diocesan requirements for volunteers in any school.**

ARCHERY COACHES are needed to assist for the 2024-25 season. Those interested in being trained please reach out to Rob Rastorfer, olparchery@gmail.com.


CAFETERIA HELPERS are needed to assist with serving lunch each school day. All volunteers must be Virtus trained prior to signing up. Cafeteria sign-up


CHESS CLUB LEADER is needed to help Wednesday mornings 7:00-7:45 a.m. Minimum requirements are that the volunteer should know how to setup a board and how pieces can move. Volunteers must be Virtus trained. If interested, please email Seth Kakuske, seth_kakuske@hotmail.com.


CROSSING GUARDS are needed to help with morning drop-off 7:30-8:00 a.m. If you are interested in helping get students through the parking lot safely before school, please email Mr. Podjenski, dpodjenski@olpls.org.


PARENT ON PATROL Half and full days available. Volunteers provide an extra presence around the school building, at recess, in the cafeteria, etc. If you are interested in participating in the POPPS program please contact Gaetano Falcone at popps@olplsschool.org.

FIRE Week: October 7 -11

🔥FIRE WEEK🔥 We are excited for FIRE Week (Oct. 7-Oct. 11) celebrating our inclusive Catholic school community. We need your help to make it special! Every dollar raised supports the FIRE Foundation and OLP’s Team Lab.

If we meet our school goal of selling 1100 tickets, the whole school will receive a free dress down day on Friday, October 11 and an ice cream treat!


Plus 3 lucky winners will be drawn and can choose to pie the staff member of their choice during the FIRE assembly.

Coin Wars begins Friday, October 4 and ends Tuesday, October 8. The winning grade levels will win an ice cream party from Golden Scoop. Money raised from Coin Wars will be used to buy raffle tickets with OLP Team Lab as the recipient.

UNIFORM SWEATSHIRTS & SPIRIT WEAR

If you are waiting on your uniform sweatshirts from August or from our preorder, they are in process and we should be receiving them in the next two weeks. We will deliver them to your child's classroom once they arrive. The new 1/4 zips size youth large navy are on backorder until October 15.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR & COMMUNITY OFFERINGS

OLP ARCHERY CLUB is now registering for the 2024-25 season. Students grades 4-8 are eligible to participate. First practice is Friday, November 8. Visit the Archery webpage for details and link to the registration form.

Calling all hoop stars! 🏆 Registration for OLP PLKC Girls and Boys Basketball is open! If your child is ready to hit the court, now’s the time to get them signed up. High School Placement Test (HSPT)

HSPT is a required test for 8th graders. Test dates are Saturday, December

7 (recommended for early acceptance) or Saturday, January 11. Cost is $25.

INTRODUCE A GIRL TO ENGINEERING DAY (Open to girls grades 7 & 8)

This event, hosted by the Society of Women Engineers, is an opportunity for 7-8th grade girls (6th grade if space is available after 9/29) to be introduced to engineering disciplines in a "fun" environment. Exposure is super important in making an intimidating career, such as engineering, less intimidating. For more information visit https://swe-kc.swe.org/introduce-a-girl-to-engineering-day-jr/.
