OMCA Board Member News:  OMCA Board Member Liz Crammond informed the Board of her resignation.  Liz was recently hired as the Executive Director of Bright Minds Foundation and due to the new position she regrettably had to resign her board position.  Many thanks Liz for your contributions to the board and the ideas you shared.  Best wishes in your new position.

Resident Architectural Committee (RAC)
The RAC meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. The next RAC meeting will be held on  Thursday, July 19th at 7:30 p.m. at the Other Barn. Sign-in begins at 7:00 p.m. A list of applications for the meeting can be found here .

Resident Speak Out
More about the meeting...
The resident speak out is this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at The Other Barn! Come talk with representatives of Oakland Mills shared spaces (open space, public space, and watershed). Examples of issues that might be addressed: broken cable boxes, sweetgum tree ball clean up, problems with pollutants draining into the local watershed, etc. This discussion will not cover privately owned spaces such as the recently vacated grocery space in the Village Center.

Bike with a Cop
Thursday, August 16th, 5:00 p.m.
Oakland Mills Village Center
Meet in front of the police trailer

Kids ages 5-11 and their parents are invited to bike the pathways of Oakland Mills with officers from HCPD's Pathway Patrol Section. A brief bicycle safety lesson will be given prior to the ride.  Children ages 9 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult and helmets MUST be worn.

Weekend Warrior Snack Packs
Fridays, June 22-August 31
Oakland Mills Middle School, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Weekend Warrior Snack Packs offers youth ages 18 and younger a FREE bag of snacks to provide nutrition over the weekend during the summer months. Student must be present in order to receive snack pack. Snack Packs available while supplies last.
Adv Summer Mobile Rec Program with Howard County Police 
Two convenient local locations!
  • Talbott Springs Community Center, Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through July 31.
  • Blandair Park, Fridays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through August 3.
School Resource Officers will be on location, ready  to play basketball, baseball, flag football, Xbox or just hang. No need to register. Kids can drop in any time and must be able to be on their own.  Attendees should bring their own food and beverage.  
On Tuesdays at Talbott Springs, the program includes a free swim at the Talbott Springs Pool from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Only those attending the program can participate in the free swim. Make sure to bring a swimsuit and towel!

Exploring Columbia on Foot 
Columbia Association's (CA) series of outdoor walks explores the lakes, streams, woodlands and wildlife of Columbia. Each walk is about two miles long, with four to five stops along the way. Registration is not required.

The walks are led by award-winning environmental author Ned Tillman, who guides discussions on the nature, history and future of these wonderful outdoor settings, including the plans for them and challenges they may face in the near future. 
All walks begin at 10 a.m. The schedule includes:

Free Soil Analysis
Columbia Association will provide a FREE soil analysis for residents. A soil analysis can indicate what levels of chemicals and minerals are present in your lawn, and what type of nutrients may need to be added. Soil collection bags are available at The Other Barn and can be returned there. The samples are then analyzed and the results are sent to you by email.

CA BikeAbout Seeking Volunteers!
Saturday, September 29th
CA is looking for a few Oakland Mills residents who can be stationed at a stop in Oakland Mills and provide historical information about the village. CA will provide information but seeks individuals to interact with riders and talk about historical information on Oakland Mills.  Follow this LINK to sign up.

Both parties will be held at the Locust Park Pool in the village of Long Reach ( 8995 Lambkin Lane). Registration is required for this free event.
The Middle School pool party will be held on
