With elections now complete, we welcome the following board members serving from July 2023 - June 2025.
Kelly Moore, Director of Bands at Ridgeview High School, will be serving as the next 2nd Vice President succeeding Sean Williams of McNary High School.
Val Locke, Music Specialist at Gilbert Park Elementary School, will be serving as the next Elementary Chair succeeding KK Friar of Bonny Slope Elementary School.
Jessika Smith, Director of Bands at Parkrose Middle School, will be serving as the next Jazz Chair succeeding Dan Davey of Mt. Hood Community College.

Joe Dyvig, NAfME NW Division President-Elect
|
|
|
Joe Dyvig teaches orchestra at Olympia High School in Washington and is the school district's music coordinator. In the Olympia School District he previously taught at Capital High School, Jefferson Middle School and various elementary schools. Joe has been active as both an orchestra and band teacher. Past teaching assignments include teaching jazz band and orchestra at both Inglemoor High School and Ferndale High School. He started his career in Monroe Public Schools teaching middle school band at Hidden River Middle School. Joe achieved National Board Certified Teacher status in 2010.

He earned his Masters of Music Education degree in 2007 from the University of North Texas where he was a teaching assistant to Jeff Bradetich, as well as the master teacher for the University String Project. His undergraduate work was at the University of Washington. In 1998 he was named a Mary Gates Scholar and Grant recipient for his volunteer work as the director of the second jazz band at Woodinville High School, his alma mater. At the University of Washington he studied double bass with Barry Lieberman and both tuba and conducting with Tim Salzman. Joe is active in the Washington Music Educators Association. His Capital High School Symphony Orchestra performed at the 2014 WMEA conference and in 2017 his Symphony Orchestra from Olympia High School performed at the NW-NAFME Conference in Bellevue. He was the organizing chair for the 2015 NAfME All-Northwest Orchestra and served in the same role for the 2004 and 2010 WMEA All-State Chamber Orchestras. Joe was president of the San Juan Music Educators Association (2004-2006), has frequently presented at the WMEA and Northwest NAfME conference, is a staff member of the Birch Bay String Teachers Workshop and is active as an adjudicator throughout the region.
He is currently serving on the WMEA board as the Administration Curriculum Officer and previously was the Treasure/Secretary, and Orchestra Curriculum officer. Working with a group of dedicated staff members Joe created the Lake Samish Music Camp in Bellingham, which had its inaugural summer in 2010. Joe plays double bass in Symphony Tacoma, and lives in rural Thurston County with his wife Lisa and two children, Jorie and Luke.

A Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter opens up a world of opportunities for students who have already shown themselves to be academically capable and musically gifted. Through performance and community service, they’ll develop confidence, creativity, critical thinking, compassion, and a host of other leadership skills sure to serve them well in school and beyond.

We all know that music is an essential part of our students’ academic and social-emotional learning. As the music education expert in your building and district, we strongly encourage you to reach out to your leadership, be involved, and advocate for your students, your music colleagues, and yourself.
