2022 OBDA Reading Session & Adjudication Training, August 1-5, OSU
|
|
For the past 30+ years, the Reading Session has provided band directors from across Oregon and Washington an opportunity to learn about new literature and foster relationships within the band community. We are thankful to those who have worked diligently to keep this event as a premier professional development opportunity for band directors in our state, including Dave Becker, Phil Hodapp at Beacock Music, Sheet Music Service of Portland, and Lewis and Clark College.
The reboot of this impactful professional development opportunity will provide directors from all levels and geographic areas an opportunity to share new and proven literature with their band colleagues. To keep initial costs down, our first year as a OSU/OBDA event will be conducted by local collegiate educators and members of the OBDA Leadership.
Networking opportunities will include nightly no-host social events and the annual OBDA meeting, held at the conclusion of Thursdays session.
Because we recognize this reading session as a relevant and transformative professional development opportunity, we will be providing an option for participants to receive Oregon PDU’s, and Washington Clock Hours. We are still looking into avenues to provide graduate credits for this event.
Repertoire will be sourced from a variety of avenues and will feature works from the OBDA State List, new releases from J.W. Pepper along with music from underrepresented composers from across a variety of grade levels.

Self Care Survey for Music Teachers
|
|
Dear K-12 Music Educator:
Dr. Jennifer Gee and Dr. Karen Koner, Assistant Professors of Music Education at San Diego State University, are conducting a research study to explore self-compassion among practicing K-12 music educators across the United States. Although participation may not benefit you directly, we believe that the information obtained from this study will help us gain a better understanding of self-compassion amongst K-12 music educators.
Participation is voluntary. The survey will take approximately 10 to 12 minutes to complete. This research study involves your contribution to a survey, via Qualtrics. This study involves no foreseeable risks to your safety or privacy, and you may withdraw from the study at any time. Your participation is solicited, although strictly voluntary. You must be at least 18 years old to take this survey.
We ask that you try to answer all questions; however, you may refuse to answer any question or stop participating all together. Your answers will be submitted anonymously, and no email or IP address will be collected. The data from this study will be stored on a secure USB drive and will be kept for a period of three years in a locked cabinet. Your name will not be associated in any publication or presentation with the information collected about you or the research findings from this study. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Dr. Jennifer Gee at jlgee@sdsu.edu.
The San Diego State University Institutional Review Board has approved this consent form as signified by the Board's stamp. The research presents no more than minimal risk of harm to subjects and involves no procedures for which written consent is normally required outside of the research context. However, you may sign the consent form as an option and send, via mail, it to the researcher separately from taking this survey.
Thank you for your willingness to participate in this study. We plan to share our findings with you, as well as music educators and those in the field of research, because the information gathered can contribute to the K-12 music education community and the profession at-large. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Jennifer Gee, Principal Investigator.
