A picture of a football game in 1918 during the Spanish Flu.

The President was Woodrow Wilson, who closed down most business but kept football open for the "morale of the country"!  WW1 was still going on hence some soldiers in the stands.  Game was between Georgia Tech and Clemson at Grant Field in Atlanta (of course Georgia Tech won).  John Heisman was our coach.......there was 25,000 in attendance and we went undefeated that year.  The Spanish Flu killed more than 675,000 Americans (one in every 200)!  Look at those masks.

We are all going through the COVID Pandemic together.  COVID is affecting us all in different ways.  I recently read an article relating to HOW COVID WILL CHANGE OUR LIVES (some good, some bad).

1. Handshakes (being replaced with fist & elbow bumps)
2. Food Buffets
3. Free Food Samples (like Cosco & Sams)
4. Open Floor Business Offices
5. Hugs
6. Public Water Fountains
7. High Fives
8. Cashless (Toll Booths, Pay Phones)
9. Business Travel
10. Concerts, Sporting Events, Crowded Lines
11. Public Touch Screens

BLOCK BUSTER

We all know the term Block Buster, referring to a Big New Hollywood Movie.  I recently was watching a history program that showed where this term came from.

In 1977, Star Wars was released and the lines for tickets went around the block!  Now we know the rest of the story.

MetTel LEC or Carrier Dispatch Charges
When your customers call MetTel for Customer Service and require a dispatch to trouble shoot, the following charges will be passed on to the customer. Of course if problems are found and repaired there will be no dispatch fee. During these times of COVID, dispatch prices are higher.

LEC or Carrier Dispatch Charges, (NTF)

* For productive or identified carrier problems that are repaired there is no dispatch fee.
* In the case of a No Trouble Found, MetTel is charging a non-productive fee of $175 for each line noted on the ticket.
* If the tech is dispatched and cannot access the location MetTel is charging $175 for each line noted on the ticket.
These charges from the carrier are passed through to the client.

Inside Wiring Dispatches through MetTel, (ISW)

*$250 for the first hour and $125 for each additional hour.
These charges are passed through to the client.

HEAT MAPS TO MEASURE CELL SIGNALS
 By Scott Solomon

One of our newest customers is an oil company with multiple locations and some refineries in very remote areas. The company uses drones to monitor the refineries and these drones are controlled by a cellular service which made the choice of the provider critical to the successful implementation and use of the drones. We sent out a request for the best way to create a heat map at the site. One of the MetTel engineers replied with an app call G-NetTrack.

There are two versions; G-NetTrack Lite and G-NetTrack Pro. The apps only work on Android phones (sorry IOS users) and can be downloaded from the Gyokov Solutions website https://www.gyokovsolutions.com/G-NetTrack%20Android.html .  It supports LTE, UMTSGSM,CDMA, & EVDO. It will test voice, data, and SMS sequences. You get indoor and outdoor measurements which can be visualized on a map. With the app you can create a heat map around a city or even the building you may be working in.  Maps are color coded to distinguish different layers and different technologies.

Here are some of the measurements the app reports:
              Serving Cell
                           LEVEL (4G, 3G, 2G)
                           QUAL (4G,3G,2G)
                           SNR (4G ONLY)
                           MCC,MNC,CELLID, eNodeBID/RNCID, LAC/TAC

              Neighbor Cells
                           LEVEL (4G, 3G, 2G)
                           CELL (4G, 3G, 2G)

              Events
                           Cell Reselection
                           Handovers

While the app seems to be intimidating for those of us who are not engineers, they have a YOUTUBE channel where you can get a good feel for how to use the app. Here's a link:
